Yesterday marked two years since we launched our Pay it Forward program.

I’m incapable of properly articulating and comprehending how amazed and humbled I am by its success.

With the generosity of the community and other local businesses coming in to support, we’ve managed to provide 928 pizzas for those in need.

I feel honoured/guilty to be the one who reaps the thanks from everyone. In reality, it’s the all of you stepping up and providing for others, and our team here over this time who have been all in on the program pushing for its success.

I had a lot of pushback from many people when I first came up with the idea for this program, but it was just something I felt I needed to try, even if it was destined for failure. To me, at the two year mark, breaking 100 pizzas gifted was an inconceivable goal. So please know I mean this with all my heart when I say this:

Thank you Brockville.

My favourite Pay it Forward story to leave you with:

Within the first two weeks of the program’s launch, a gentleman came in one night after reading the sign on our window. He asked if it was real and he could get a free pizza. I said of course, and made him his pizza.

When I handed it to him he stood there in disbelief, frozen for a moment. Then tears ran down his face. He told me his car broke down a week prior. He had no money leftover from fixing it and used his last dollar to buy food for his dog. He told me he thought he would just wait three to four days without food until his next paycheque.

He was so thankful, and really the first moment I saw how impactful this could be.

One week later he came in and bought a pay it forward for someone else. I knew in that moment that nothing else mattered, and this was already a success.
