Did you know that the Quinte Humane Society Receives $0 funding from the Provincial or Federal Levels of Government. Recently Belleville and Quinte West donated funds towards a new shelter but operational expenses are covered with help of our community donations. Any donation to the Quinte Humane Society is very much appreciated!.
Happy Thanksgiving!
Did you know we do not receive any government funding? It is the generosity of our community that ensure our doors remain open and we can provide the high level of care that these animals deserve.
The staff and animals here at QHS are thankful for your continued support! Today we are featuring three animals that are thankful for your donations which goes directly towards their care.
What are you thankful for today?
-Ida came into our care as a stray in September and was brought to us by a concerned member of the public. She was found wandering around an empty school yard completely blind, and in search of shelter, food and safety. We’re so thankful she was brought in, a blind kitten, wandering near a heavily trafficked road, screams tragedy! We’re still curious how she found her way, and survived as long as she did all alone without her vision. It didn’t take long for her to settle into her kennel here at QHS and have a routine down pat. She loves to play with her toys, climb all over staff and has the sweetest personality. Once she is spayed and not requiring any additional surgeries to her eyes, she will be available to find her furever home.
-Nightmare is the opposite of what his name suggests, he is the sweetest dream you’ll ever meet. He came to us a familiar stray, we had seen on previous occasions, but this time was different, when Nightmare arrived in September he was in very poor body condition. After a trip to the vet it was discovered that he is Lyme positive, and is currently undergoing treatment. His spirits as always are high, and food is most certainly the way to his heart. He was started on a feeding schedule that would allow him to gradually gain weight, and now looks to be the perfect body condition for his size and breed. Anyone that has had an opportunity to spend some time with Nightmare would never guess he is Lyme positive, as he shows no physical signs and is a sweet little ball of energy. He loves to spend time with people, and is so content just being near you. Once Nightmare completes his treatment and has been cleared by a veterinarian he will be available for adoption! He is so eager to embark on a new life, with a loving family!
- Sweet Jolene did not have a good prognosis when she came into our care. She was on the later stage of Liver failure, was horribly matted and her spirits were dampened. While working closely with a wonderful vet, the staff here at the Quinte Humane Society pulled together and gave her the strength she didn’t have. She was on a regiment of medications on a routine schedule and watched very closely. Every day Jolene became stronger and stronger and by the end of her first round of medications she was gaining her personality back. Since coming into our care in August, Jolene is on the winning end of her aliments. Not completely out of the water yet, she is a sassy cat that loves to curl up with staff for attention. Once she has been cleared for adoption, she will be available to find a family to call her very own!
