Today, one of our regulars came in and gave us something we’ll probably never forget. 🤍
He brought us a piece of chocolate cake that he had made himself.
As he handed it to us, he told us the story behind it. He has been making this exact cake for his wife every year on her birthday, from an old recipe book that means so much to him.
She passed away ten years ago.
But every year, on her birthday, he still makes her cake.
And this year, he decided to bring a piece of it to us.
He told us he wanted to share it with us because this was a special occasion, and somehow, sharing this cake felt like the right thing to do.
I don’t think he realized how deeply that touched us.
There was something about standing there, listening to him talk about his wife, holding this little piece of cake that he has made for her year after year… it was hard not to feel emotional.
It reminded us that food is never just food. Sometimes a recipe is a memory. Sometimes a cake is a love letter. And sometimes the simplest things carry the biggest stories.
We are so grateful that one of our regulars trusted us enough to share something so personal and so precious with us 🙏🏼
We’ll remember this piece of cake for a very long time. 🤍
