An update on the new roastery at the Sail Shed: Huge thanks to Chris Moar for his beautiful job tackling the wall repair and painting of the new roastery bay. This was no small job and we couldn't believe our good fortune when Chris agreed to help us out. And thanks to Diana at Annapolis Home Hardware for knowing "if that's for Sissiboo, it's Cloud White top to bottom, always".

We have begun uncrating equipment and are getting ready for Chimney installation.

We don't make pricing changes lightly, and we've worked hard to hold our prices as long as possible. Over the past couple of years, however, the cost of the green coffee we purchase has risen dramatically. In some cases, we're now paying nearly twice what we were paying for the same origin just a few years ago. Beginning September 2, our 1 lb bags will be $24.95, with corresponding adjustments to our other bag sizes.

For us, lowering the quality of the coffee we buy isn't the answer.

We'll continue sourcing the certified organic and Fairtrade coffees that go into the Sissiboo coffees you know, roasting them here in Nova Scotia, and working with suppliers and producers we trust.

We know every increase matters, and we're very grateful for your continued support of Sissiboo Coffee and the people behind it.

As you may have noticed, our coffee has a fresh new look! Here's why:

For years, we thought our paper bags were the most sustainable choice. It turns out that, despite their appearance, there is an unfortunate gap between suppliers and waste facilities, and these bags aren't compostable or recyclable by Canadian municipalities. On top of that, they didn’t offer the shelf life we needed to keep our coffee at its best.

After a lot of research, we've made the switch to hermetically sealed bags made with 30% post-consumer recycled (PCR) plastic.

The new look is thanks to a number of talented artists and graphic designers: our new woodcuts were beautifully created by Antigonish printmaker Heather Gabriel Smith, our new logo comes from Halifax design firm Small Monsters and our bag design from Renaissance women Jenna Kessler and Anna Comfort. Supporting artists has always been close to our hearts, and we’re thrilled to showcase their work on our bags.

We wish there were a package that did it all. Until that day comes, we're committed to making the most responsible choice we can while continuing to look for better solutions as they become available.

We want to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who has joined our Founders Program over the past few weeks. The response has been incredible, and we're truly humbled by the support.

Every Founder is helping transform the former Sail Shed property into a vibrant waterfront destination that will celebrate our community's maritime heritage while creating something new for generations to enjoy.

This week marks another exciting milestone as work continues inside the warehouse. The concrete floors have been professionally ground and sealed, creating a clean, durable foundation for the future Sissiboo Coffee roastery and the many opportunities that will grow around it.

Progress like this wouldn't be possible without the encouragement and belief of so many people who have chosen to be part of the journey. Thank you for believing in the vision.

It is very special to be sharing our Bear River cafe with Ken Flett's puppets for the next 6 weeks. Many of these puppets may be familiar to you from Ken's on-stage productions but seeing them upclose (and there is a lot ot see!) in all their human glory and puppet mechanism magic is such a treat. And, for the first time, a few of them are available for purchase. Come on in and play the name game....Can you guess who Charlene is, Joseph...Young Ken?
