Happy 4th Birthday, Arbour. ⭐️
Arbour began as an idea and a very big leap of faith. Today, we’re celebrating our 4th birthday, and I’m finding it difficult to put into words what these four years have meant to me.
Owning a restaurant has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. There have been days filled with packed rooms, laughter, celebrations, and moments that made me think, "This is exactly why we did this." There have also been long nights, difficult decisions, mistakes, uncertainty, exhaustion, and moments when I wondered if I had anything left to give.
This business has taught me more about leadership, resilience, community, people, and myself than I could ever fit into one post.
But more than anything, these four years have given me all of you.
We have watched your first dates turn into anniversaries. We’ve celebrated birthdays, engagements, weddings, retirements, family dinners, reunions, and celebrations of life. We’ve met travellers seeing Newfoundland for the first time, and neighbours who come back again and again.
We have built relationships with local producers, suppliers, musicians, businesses, organizations, municipalities, and members of our community who believed in us, collaborated with us, supported us, and taught us along the way.
And we have learned SO much along the way.
Some lessons came from our biggest successes. Others came from getting things completely wrong and having to figure out how to do better the next time.
And despite everything, or maybe because of everything, I am so deeply thankful for this experience.
Thank you to our staff, both past and present. Hospitality is demanding work, and I will always be grateful to those who stood by us through busy nights, quiet seasons, celebrations, challenges, and everything in between. Arbour’s story belongs to every person who has helped us tell it.
Thank you to every person who has walked through our doors. Thank you to everyone who has worked with us, recommended us, celebrated with us, challenged us, encouraged us, shared a post, bought a gift card, booked a table, attended an event, brought a friend, or simply told us to keep going.
Thank you for allowing us to be part of your lives.
Four years later, Arbour looks different than it did when we first opened, and so do I.
Here’s to four years of learning, growing, adapting, creating, laughing, crying, and meeting some truly wonderful people along the way.
Happy 4th Birthday, Arbour. What an absolute privilege it has been. 🤍
