Public Notice - Church Street:

Church Street, from St. Ninian Street to the traffic lights at Antigonish Market Square, will be open to local traffic only on Sunday, July 26, for the installation of new services.

The closure will begin at 6 a.m.

The road will be closed in both directions until one lane can be reopened, after which traffic will be controlled with stop-and-go traffic for the remainder of the work.

Music on the Main is back! 🎶

Join us for our first show on Wednesday, July 29, from 6:00–9:00 p.m. at Columbus Field, featuring Our Father’s Fools as the opening act, followed by Merimac

The evening will finish with a spectacular fireworks display at 9:00 p.m. on behalf of the Town of Antigonish and Municipality of the County of Antigonish. Food trucks will also be onsite, so bring a chair or blanket and enjoy a fun summer evening with family and friends!

📅 Save the date for Wednesday, August 12, from 6:00–9:00 p.m. at the St. Andrew Junior School Pavilion, when The Ceilidhmen open for The Barra MacNeils.

These concerts are free and open to visitors and locals alike.

Heard a good story from Elwood Cleary this past weekend. The Claymore Hotel and Restaurant (the latter later called the Lochinvar, and now the Justamere Cafe) opened on the Saturday of the Antigonish Highland Games in 1971. The place was owned by the Chisholm Family (John Nova et al). Elwood was managing the kitchen and they still didn't have tables so the carpenters lent their sawhorses and plywood to make tables! They only had poached salmon, and served a lot of it all day. Meanwhile, the hotel was also opening and expecting a bus tour or two of guests. Ernie J. Curry and others were still building the beds as they arrived!
