Airdrie Family Life Church

Airdrie Family Life Church The Family Life Church of the Nazarene is a church located in the city of Airdrie, AB. What is an "Organic" Church ? Simple and highly relational.

A church is a group of people gathered around Jesus. It is not a place, program, or performance (although these things can be important as well). It is the people of Jesus, empowered by the Holy Spirit, who are learning together how to make life and faith work! This is helpful to understand when we talk about organic church. We believe that a church can be in a neighborhood home, in a coffee shop

down the road, in a business break room, in a pub, or in a nursing home. This, then, is the natural or "organic" expression of the church as we live out the Great Commission to make disciples wherever we go. The people of God on the mission of God in the world around them naturally living out in community what Jesus is doing in their lives. What is a "Network"? The "network" component is mostly about a number of organic churches with shared resources including leaders, buildings, and money. Our philosophy is that sharing allows for a greater Kingdom impact!

Hebrews 6:13-20
The Certainty of God’s Promise
When God made his promise to Abraham, since there was no one greater for him to swear by, he swore by himself, saying, “I will surely bless you and give you many descendants.”
And so after waiting patiently, Abraham received what was promised.
People swear by someone greater than themselves, and the oath confirms what is said and puts an end to all argument.
Because God wanted to make the unchanging nature of his purpose very clear to the heirs of what was promised, he confirmed it with an oath.
God did this so that, by two unchangeable things in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled to take hold of the hope set before us may be greatly encouraged.
We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. It enters the inner sanctuary behind the curtain, where our forerunner, Jesus, has entered on our behalf. He has become a high priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek.

Praise awaits you, our God, in Zion;
to you our vows will be fulfilled.
You who answer prayer,
to you all people will come.
When we were overwhelmed by sins,
you forgave our transgressions.
Blessed are those you choose
and bring near to live in your courts!
We are filled with the good things of your house,
of your holy temple.

You answer us with awesome and righteous deeds,
God our Savior,
the hope of all the ends of the earth
and of the farthest seas,
who formed the mountains by your power,
having armed yourself with strength,
who stilled the roaring of the seas,
the roaring of their waves,
and the turmoil of the nations.
The whole earth is filled with awe at your wonders;
where morning dawns, where evening fades,
you call forth songs of joy.

You care for the land and water it;
you enrich it abundantly.
The streams of God are filled with water
to provide the people with grain,
for so you have ordained it.
You drench its furrows and level its ridges;
you soften it with showers and bless its crops.
You crown the year with your bounty,
and your carts overflow with abundance.
The grasslands of the wilderness overflow;
the hills are clothed with gladness.
The meadows are covered with flocks
and the valleys are mantled with grain;
they shout for joy and sing.

Every person God called in the Bible was led into some level of pain, chaos, or confusion for their assignment.

Noah built an ark before there was rain.

Abraham left everything familiar without knowing where he was going.

Joseph was betrayed before he was promoted.

Moses spent forty years in the wilderness before leading a nation.

David was anointed king long before he wore the crown.

Esther risked her life before saving her people.

Ruth walked through grief before becoming part of the Messiah’s lineage.

Mary carried a promise that many people misunderstood.

Paul suffered imprisonment, beatings, and persecution while preaching the gospel.

Even Jesus was led into the wilderness before beginning His public ministry, and to the cross before the resurrection.

God never promised that His calling would be comfortable. More often than not, He uses hardship to shape our character, deepen our faith, and prepare us for what He has prepared for us.

If your path feels painful, uncertain, or confusing, don’t assume you’ve missed God’s will. Sometimes the wilderness isn’t a detour, it’s the training ground. The storm isn’t proof of God’s absence; it’s often where His presence becomes most real.

Your struggle may not be a sign that God has abandoned your purpose. It may be the very place where He is preparing you to fulfill it. 🙏🏻🤍

Hebrews 2:1-4
Warning to Pay Attention
We must pay the most careful attention, therefore, to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away.
For since the message spoken through angels was binding, and every violation and disobedience received its just punishment, how shall we escape if we ignore so great a salvation? This salvation, which was first announced by the Lord, was confirmed to us by those who heard him.
God also testified to it by signs, wonders and various miracles, and by gifts of the Holy Spirit distributed according to his will.

I think rest has become a lost art.

We’ve become so used to pushing through that we almost wear exhaustion like a badge of honour. We tell ourselves we’ll slow down next week, after the ever growing to do lists, after this project, after things settle down. But next week comes and goes, life keeps asking for more, and somehow there’s always one more thing that feels too important to put down.

Until one day, our bodies make the decision for us.

I’ve learnt the hard way that our bodies have a way of whispering before they start shouting. They tell us we’re tired,they ask us to slow down, they remind us we’re carrying too much, but we’re so busy trying to keep up with life that we mistake those whispers for weakness instead of wisdom.

I don’t think they’re weakness at all.

I think they’re grace.

I wonder if that’s one of the reasons Jesus spoke about sparrows. Even they stop flying. They find somewhere safe to rest their tiny wings, they aren’t trying to prove anything, they don’t compare themselves to the bird still soaring overhead, and they certainly don’t apologise because they needed to stop for a while.

They simply rest.

And somehow, they’re still completely held by the God who sees every feather.

I think we’ve forgotten that rest isn’t something we earn once we’ve finally done enough. It’s something our Heavenly Father lovingly built into creation from the very beginning, because He knew we would need it.

Even Jesus withdrew to quiet places. Even after pouring Himself out for others, He stepped away to be with the Father. Rest has never been the opposite of faith. Sometimes it’s one of the greatest expressions of it.

So if you’re tired today, if your body feels weary, your mind won’t switch off, or your soul has been quietly asking you to slow down, don’t get down on yourself for needing the reminder.

You were never created to carry the weight of the world. You were created to walk with the One who already does.

Maybe today, instead of pushing a little harder, you simply let yourself breathe. Let yourself sit with Jesus for a while. Let yourself remember that your worth has never been measured by how productive you’ve been, but by the God who calls you His own.

After all… Even the sparrows stop flying sometimes.

“Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” -Matthew 11:28

I hope you feel this today.

Proverbs 11:23-30
The desire of the righteous ends only in good,
but the hope of the wicked only in wrath.
One person gives freely, yet gains even more;
another withholds unduly, but comes to poverty.
A generous person will prosper;
whoever refreshes others will be refreshed.
People curse the one who hoards grain,
but they pray God’s blessing on the one who is willing to sell.
Whoever seeks good finds favor,
but evil comes to one who searches for it.
Those who trust in their riches will fall,
but the righteous will thrive like a green leaf.
Whoever brings ruin on their family will inherit only wind,
and the fool will be servant to the wise.
The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life,
and the one who is wise saves lives.

Ephesians 4:17-5:2
Instructions for Christian Living
So I tell you this, and insist on it in the Lord, that you must no longer live as the Gentiles do, in the futility of their thinking.
They are darkened in their understanding and separated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them due to the hardening of their hearts. Having lost all sensitivity, they have given themselves over to sensuality so as to indulge in every kind of impurity, and they are full of greed.
That, however, is not the way of life you learned when you heard about Christ and were taught in him in accordance with the truth that is in Jesus.
You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.
Therefore each of you must put off falsehood and speak truthfully to your neighbor, for we are all members of one body.
“In your anger do not sin”[a]: Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, and do not give the devil a foothold.
Anyone who has been stealing must steal no longer, but must work, doing something useful with their own hands, that they may have something to share with those in need.
Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.
And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.
Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice.
Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.
Follow God’s example, therefore, as dearly loved children and walk in the way of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.

1 Thessalonians 4:1-8
Living to Please God
As for other matters, brothers and sisters, we instructed you how to live in order to please God, as in fact you are living. Now we ask you and urge you in the Lord Jesus to do this more and more.
For you know what instructions we gave you by the authority of the Lord Jesus.
It is God’s will that you should be sanctified: that you should avoid sexual immorality; that each of you should learn to control your own body in a way that is holy and honorable, not in passionate lust like the pagans, who do not know God; and that in this matter no one should wrong or take advantage of a brother or sister. The Lord will punish all those who commit such sins, as we told you and warned you before.
For God did not call us to be impure, but to live a holy life.
Therefore, anyone who rejects this instruction does not reject a human being but God, the very God who gives you his Holy Spirit.

Romans 8:1-11
Life Through the Spirit
Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death.
For what the law was powerless to do because it was weakened by the flesh,
God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh to be a sin offering. And so he condemned sin in the flesh, in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fully met in us, who do not live according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.
Those who live according to the flesh have their minds set on what the flesh desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires.
The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace.
The mind governed by the flesh is hostile to God; it does not submit to God’s law, nor can it do so.
Those who are in the realm of the flesh cannot please God.
You, however, are not in the realm of the flesh but are in the realm of the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, they do not belong to Christ.
But if Christ is in you, then even though your body is subject to death because of sin, the Spirit gives life[d] because of righteousness.
And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies because of his Spirit who lives in you.

John 12:44-50
Then Jesus cried out, “Whoever believes in me does not believe in me only, but in the one who sent me. 45 The one who looks at me is seeing the one who sent me.
I have come into the world as a light, so that no one who believes in me should stay in darkness.
“If anyone hears my words but does not keep them, I do not judge that person. For I did not come to judge the world, but to save the world.
There is a judge for the one who rejects me and does not accept my words; the very words I have spoken will condemn them at the last day.
For I did not speak on my own, but the Father who sent me commanded me to say all that I have spoken.
I know that his command leads to eternal life. So whatever I say is just what the Father has told me to say.”

The Lord is gracious and compassionate,
slow to anger and rich in love.

The Lord is good to all;
he has compassion on all he has made.
All your works praise you, Lord;
your faithful people extol you.
They tell of the glory of your kingdom
and speak of your might,
so that all people may know of your mighty acts
and the glorious splendor of your kingdom.
Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom,
and your dominion endures through all generations.

The Lord is trustworthy in all he promises
and faithful in all he does.
The Lord upholds all who fall
and lifts up all who are bowed down.

One ordinary day, your plans will stop, but eternity won’t.
The question isn’t whether that day will come… it’s whether you’re ready when it does.

Live with urgency. Repent quickly. Walk with Christ.
Don’t waste your life chasing what won’t matter forever.

Because the most important day of your life
may look like the most ordinary one. 🤍🙏🏻

Romans 2:12-16
All who sin apart from the law will also perish apart from the law, and all who sin under the law will be judged by the law.
For it is not those who hear the law who are righteous in God’s sight, but it is those who obey the law who will be declared righteous.
(Indeed, when Gentiles, who do not have the law, do by nature things required by the law, they are a law for themselves, even though they do not have the law.
They show that the requirements of the law are written on their hearts, their consciences also bearing witness, and their thoughts sometimes accusing them and at other times even defending them.)
This will take place on the day when God judges people’s secrets through Jesus Christ, as my gospel declares.

Psalm 131
My heart is not proud, Lord,
my eyes are not haughty;
I do not concern myself with great matters
or things too wonderful for me.
But I have calmed and quieted myself,

like a weaned child I am content.
Israel, put your hope in the Lord
both now and forevermore.

Romans 3:1-8
God’s Faithfulness
What advantage, then, is there in being a Jew, or what value is there in circumcision?
Much in every way! First of all, the Jews have been entrusted with the very words of God.
What if some were unfaithful? Will their unfaithfulness nullify God’s faithfulness? Not at all! Let God be true, and every human being a liar. As it is written:
“So that you may be proved right when you speak
and prevail when you judge.”
But if our unrighteousness brings out God’s righteousness more clearly, what shall we say? That God is unjust in bringing his wrath on us? (I am using a human argument.)
Certainly not! If that were so, how could God judge the world?
Someone might argue, “If my falsehood enhances God’s truthfulness and so increases his glory, why am I still condemned as a sinner?”
Why not say—as some slanderously claim that we say—“Let us do evil that good may result”? Their condemnation is just!
