Las Orquideas

Las Orquideas A local, Belizean Mestizo and Mayan cultural experience with traditional food and cooking classes for visitors. Located right by the entrance of Lamanai.

The village of Indian Church was established in 1991 and Las Orquideas in 1992. Taking no time to wait, this cooperative started as a small restaurant and local spot for members in town. As tourism has grown in the region with the excavations in Lamanai National Forest and installment of Lamanai Outpost Lodge, so has Las Orquideas Restaurant. When the group began, 14 women founded the cooperative.

Passed down from one generation to the next, you can find many of the daughters of the originally founders here today. Whether you're looking for a bite to eat on your Lamanai adventure, a big group gathering place for students or just a lesson on how to cook classic dishes like Chimole, Escabeche or corn tortillas, join us here at Las Orquideas! We use a combination of local fruits and vegetables with traditional spices to recreate the food that is eaten in the home of every mestizo community in Belize. Day to day the menu differs slightly but just about anything can be made to order when asked or called ahead!
