Today we celebrate Emancipation Day in Belize today is a day that reminds us of the courage, resilience, and sacrifices of those who came before us. Their strength paved the way for the freedoms and opportunities we enjoy today.

As we honor our ancestors, let us also commit ourselves to building a Belize where justice, equality, respect, and unity are more than just words. May we never take our freedom for granted, and may we continue to stand together as one people, embracing our rich history and diverse culture.

There have been so many moments over the past few weeks when it would have been easy to become discouraged and give up. With everything surrounding Tony's BBQ, we've faced criticism, negativity, hurtful comments, and even people trying to tear us down. Some said our food wasn't good. Others hoped to see us fail. But through it all, God has reminded me that His plans are always greater than the plans of man.

God has an amazing way of turning what was meant for harm into something beautiful. Instead of allowing the negativity to destroy us, He used it to introduce Tony's BBQ to people all across Belize. We've had customers travel from Placencia, Big Falls, Corozal, and other parts of the country just to try our food. That alone leaves me in awe.

In just the last couple of days, we've welcomed over 200 new followers. The support, the encouraging messages, the prayers, and the love we've received have been overwhelming. Every share, every comment, every customer who has stood with us is a reminder that God is still working.

The devil still lurks and will use weak people to spread hate, jealousy, envy, and discouragement. But I also know my God never fails. He has protected us for over 30 years, fought battles we couldn't fight ourselves, and continues to open doors that no one can shut.

This journey has strengthened my faith more than ever. When people try to knock you down, don't lose hope. Keep praying. Keep believing. Stay faithful. God can take the very thing meant to break you and use it as a testimony.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you to every person who has supported Tony's BBQ, whether you've been with us since the beginning or just discovered us. We don't take your love and support for granted.

We feel it is important to clear up some misunderstandings.

First and foremost, we have accepted the proposed new location. We are not fighting against relocating, and we understand that the land we occupy is public space. We have always respected the process and are willing to work with the Ministry of Infrastructure Development & Housing (MIDH) and the Belize City Council.

What many people don't realize is that our concern is not the relocation itself—it's the way the process is being handled.

We have been told in writing that we must move by August 15. However, during our meeting with MIDH, we were verbally told that we would have until November, and possibly even January depending on the project's progress. This constant change in timelines has created confusion and made it extremely difficult for us to plan.

We have also been informed that the cost of relocating our building will be entirely our responsibility. We are not receiving assistance to dismantle, move, and rebuild the structure, despite having operated from this location for many years with the necessary approvals.

In addition, we have already paid our annual trade licence/rental fees to the Belize City Council for this location, yet we are now being told that once relocated we will be charged an additional $2.00 per day, including days when we are not even open for business.

Our frustration comes from the fact that what is said in meetings, what is communicated verbally, and what is put in writing have not been consistent. We simply want clear communication, fairness, and a process that reflects what has actually been discussed.

Tony's BBQ has proudly served Belize for over 30 years. We are not trying to stop progress—we are simply asking to be treated fairly and with respect throughout this transition.
