For twenty years, the atrium has been one of the first spaces guests encounter at Zhiwaling.

Each day, it is prepared once again for the stories, conversations, and moments that will unfold beneath its painted ceilings.

Every place has its landmarks.

At Zhiwaling, one of them is a cantilever bridge spanning the stream below. Cross it, and you’ll find yourself standing above our trout pond- a favourite stop for guests exploring the grounds and discovering the many corners of the property.

A small reminder that some of the best discoveries are found along the way.

Social Forestry Day 🌲

Before reaching Taktsang, there is the forest.

The winding path, the scent of pine, the sound of prayer flags in the breeze- these moments are as much a part of the journey as the destination itself.

Today, we celebrate the forests that make such experiences possible and the importance of protecting them for future generations.

Many guests arrive expecting a hotel lobby.

What they discover instead is a space shaped by the hands of Bhutanese artisans over five years. Inspired by the architecture of Bhutan’s great dzongs, the lobby was handcrafted and hand-painted, with intricately carved timber, traditional stone masonry, and painted details that reflect generations of Bhutanese craftsmanship.

Twenty years later, it still has the same effect. People stop, look up, and take it all in.
