LA “FIORENTINA “ The one true steak with the bone is traditionally known as the “bistecca alla fiorentina.” Legend has it that this famous steak dates back to ancient times. During the celebrations for Saint Lawrence on the evening of August 10th, quarters of ox would be roasted in the streets and squares of Florence, then sliced and served to the people.

At the time of the Medici, the city was frequently visited by travelers from all over the world in search of goods and trade.

It is said that, during one of these celebrations, some Anglo-Saxon merchants tasted the prestigious bone-in meat and called it in their language “beef steak” (meaning a slice of beef). From this English pronunciation, the Florentines coined the term “bistecca,” which has survived to this day.

An alternative version traces the origin to English visitors in Florence during the 19th century, who had a lasting influence on Tuscan cuisine. These were affluent individuals who could afford fine cuts of meat—such as the beef steak, indeed! 🙌❤️
