Magasin Centraal

Magasin Centraal was born from a collaboration between Brussels City, the Urban Development Corporation (SAU), VDD Project Development and Entrakt.

In 1872, the “Grands Magasins de la Bourse” !

Before welcoming Actiris offices in 1982, the building was known as the first Department Store in Belgium. The "Grands Magasins de la Bourse" were founded in 1872 at the corner of Anspach Boulevard and Rue du Marché aux Poulets. Following a fire in 1948, the building was partially destroyed and rebuilt in 1949.

Before 1879, Anspach Boulevard was named "Central Boulevard". In tribute to this historical context, this new third place is named: "Magasin Centraal". Reference to the emporium, but also to the former name of the Boulevard and the central location of the building, “Magasin” also echoes the mix of activities on the 7 floors of the building.
