Ethiopia Tigist Abyot
A 2-hectare wedding gift sparked Tigist’s coffee journey. While her husband works his government job, she’s grown their Yirgacheffe farm to 7.76 hectares—pouring her heart into every harvest. In 2022, everything changed when she got her export license.

Before, she’d sell cherries to washing stations for 60-90 birr/kg, earning just 30% while her coffee lost its identity in regional blends. Now? She controls everything - processing, milling, exporting- and keeps 70% of the FOB price.

Tigist joined ‘Operation Cherry Red 2025’, where her meticulously dried coffees are earning top scores. Her lots are traceable directly to her family, with transparent payments reaching the right hands. The 2018 OCR Auction returned $96,292 to farmers and built lasting roaster partnerships. Now Tigist is building her own connections with roasters worldwide, transforming her family’s future one exceptional lot at a time.
