Footlights Theatre Restaurant closes a remarkable chapter after three decades of entertainment excellence
One of Central Queensland’s most iconic entertainment venues, Footlights Theatre Restaurant, has officially been placed on the market as owners Kaye and Garyth Walpole prepare to close an extraordinary chapter after decades of dedication to the region’s tourism, hospitality and entertainment industry.
Established as a much-loved destination for live entertainment, dining and memorable nights out, Footlights Theatre Restaurant has become a household name across the Capricorn Coast and Rockhampton region, welcoming generations of locals and visitors through its doors.
Kaye and Garyth Walpole have also been longstanding supporters of regional tourism, proudly standing among Capricorn Enterprise’s foundation members since 1995.
Co-owner Garyth Walpole said while the business had been listed for sale, Footlights Theatre Restaurant would continue operating, with a final show date yet to be determined.
“Footlights has been such a huge part of our lives and we are incredibly proud of what it has become,” Garyth said.
“We’ve shared so many wonderful memories with our staff, performers, audiences and community over the years, and we’re deeply grateful for the support we’ve received.
“While it’s bittersweet, we’re excited to move into our next chapter and look forward to continuing to entertain audiences while we determine what comes next.”
Mary Carroll, CEO of Capricorn Enterprise, said the Walpoles had made an extraordinary contribution to the region’s tourism and entertainment landscape.
“Kaye and Garyth have been incredible advocates for our region for more than 30 years and have played a significant role in shaping the Capricorn Coast and Rockhampton experience for both locals and visitors,” Mary said.
“As foundation members of Capricorn Enterprise since 1995, Kaye and Garyth have been passionate supporters of regional tourism, community events and the broader visitor economy for decades, and their contribution to our region has been immense.”
“We wish Kaye and Garyth all the very best as they step into this next stage of life – their passion, creativity and commitment to entertaining generations of Central Queenslanders has left a lasting legacy that should be incredibly celebrated.”
While the sale marks the beginning of a transition, Footlights Theatre Restaurant will continue operating as usual, with audiences still able to enjoy the much-loved venue while plans for its future unfold.
