It's the end of an era for The Athenaeum
Frank and Margaret Macheda alongside their children Rikki, Letteria and families have serviced the Yarrawonga and Mulwala areas for the last 21 years providing the township with authentic Italian pizza and pasta.
Anyone who knows the Athenaeum knew the quality they were receiving from the friendly greetings and chats over a beer while waiting to the end product.
For 19 of those years the business operated for 7 days a week from early morning to late at night. With their signature pizzas - the Athenaeum and Belmore to their coffee and cakes or a big breakfast fit for a king.
Over the years they've sponsored numerous local sporting clubs, the Rod Run and the Cod Classic. Catered for thousands of events from sporting breakups, birthday parties to local school and kinder gatherings. Those that know the Ath would have a story to tell.
To our valued customers, thank you for supporting our small business over the last 21 years. We sincerely appreciate all of you, the Ath would not have grown into what it is without you. Many lifelong friendships have been formed over the past two decades from our customers and employees to our suppliers and tourists. We've shared in your joys and successes, misery and sorrows and we've watched your families and children grow. You have become family and the friendships we now have will be cherished for years to come.
So once again we thank you for your ongoing support and all of the love you have shown us over the past week.
