Dear Readers,
It appears your investigator arrived at Wishbone with fish on the brain.
“I’d like fish and chips please.”
A slight problem. It’s called Wishbone, not Fishbone. 🤣
Although, in fairness, Fishbone would be an excellent name for a fish and chip shop.
Once we got past my moment of confusion, Dave was happy to introduce me to the very impressive selection of chicken and beef on offer. Given I had just spent the previous week cooking enough chicken to feed a small village, beef seemed the obvious choice.
And so began my downfall.
Fries and spicy beef.
Pure, heart-stopping indulgence.
Not something one should do every day, but on a cold, rainy afternoon after a dentist appointment, it was exactly what the doctor (or perhaps the dentist) ordered.
Dave confidently declared they were the best fries in town.
Reader, he was not wrong.
Hot and crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside, and loaded with cheese, sauce, beef and jalapeños. The sort of meal that makes you stop talking halfway through because you’re too busy eating.
But if you’re feeling considerably braver than I was, Wishbone is also home to a rather infamous challenge.
A 3kg burger challenge complete with chips, chicken, bacon and potato scallops, all to be consumed within 30 minutes.
Only one person has successfully conquered it.
Many others have earned a place on the Wall of Shame and reportedly departed in a spectacular food coma.
Not content with one impossible challenge, Dave also offers a 3kg kebab challenge.
To date?
No winners.
Perhaps you’ll be the first.
You’ll find Wishbone in central Yamba, opposite SPAR, next door to Jacko’s and just a short stroll from the caravan park.
Just try not to order fish and chips when you walk in 😉
