🐾🍺 WALLY HAS HEARD THERE’S A NEW TABLE IN TOWN…

Now, every good country pub needs a Table of Knowledge.

You know the one. The table where the world’s problems are solved, the weather is predicted with remarkable confidence, the footy team is selected better than the actual coach could manage and absolutely no qualifications are required. 😂

We’ve had plenty of important research conducted around the Table of Knowledge at the Wombat, so Wally was pleased to hear that our mates at the Light Horse have been hard at work creating a Table of Knowledge of their very own. 🐴🔨

And judging by the effort that’s gone into building it, they’re clearly expecting some very serious discussions.

We look forward to seeing it put to good use — preferably with a few cold beers sitting on top. 🍺

Just remember, Horse…

🐴🎶 APPARENTLY THE HORSE IS GETTING A SOUND SYSTEM…

Word from Murrumburrah is that our new mate at the Light Horse has been busy getting speakers wired throughout the pub.

Very fancy.

Of course, Wally would like to point out that the Wombat already has a pretty impressive sound system of its own. 🐾🎶 So naturally, there was no way we were going to let the Horse open without one too.

After all, every good country pub needs:

🍺 clinking schooners
😂 plenty of laughs
🗣️ someone telling the same story for the 47th time
🎶 great music throughout the pub
🎤 and at least one bloke singing along who thinks he knows all the words.

Looks like there might be a little friendly competition brewing between the Horse and the Wombat…

Can’t wait to hear the old Lighty making some noise again. 🐴🎶

Just remember, Horse — Wombats have excellent hearing. 😉🐾

🐾 WALLY’S GOT A NEW MATE… 🐎

Word has reached the burrow that there’s a bit of horsin’ around happening over in Murrumburrah…

And for once, Wally approves. 🍻

After a lot of hard work, dust, paint, repairs and probably more than a few colourful words, The Light Horse Hotel is getting ready to open its doors again on Thursday, 1 October.

Wally reckons every good country town deserves a good country pub — and apparently, one pub wasn’t enough to keep us busy. 😂

The Lighty will be reopening in stages, starting where all sensible pub restorations should start:

The bar. 🍺

There’ll be cold drinks, selected bar food and plenty of opportunity for a yarn, with the full kitchen and meals coming a little later. Our kitchen is open! 😉

So from all of us here at The Wombat Hotel, we’d like to say:

Welcome back, Lighty. We’ve missed you. ❤️

🐎 THE COUNTDOWN IS ON!

After months of hard work behind the scenes, we’re very excited to announce that The Light Horse Hotel will reopen its doors on Thursday, 1 October! 🍻

We’re bringing The Lighty back to life in stages, and first up is the heart of any good country pub — the bar.

From 1 October, you’ll be able to pull up a stool, enjoy a cold beer, catch up with friends and settle back into The Lighty. We’ll also have a selection of tasty bar food available while we put the finishing touches on our kitchen.

And there’s more to come! Our full kitchen and dining menu will launch a little later, once everything is ready to deliver the food and experience we want The Lighty to be known for.

For now, we’re counting down the days until we can open those doors and say:

After a season of picking winners, backing upsets and probably questioning a few tipping decisions, it’s time to get together for a drink and a bite!

We’re looking for friendly, reliable people who love good hospitality, enjoy working as part of a team and want to be part of an exciting new chapter for The Light Horse Hotel, Murrumburrah.

* 🍽️ Wait Staff

CHAPTER EIGHT: ONE MORE MISSION

We didn't retire.

We re-enlisted.

Against decay. Against neglect. Against the idea that old places don't deserve second chances.

Over the past months, we've poured our hearts into bringing the Wombat Hotel back to life. One wall repaired. One floor restored. One challenge overcome at a time.

And somewhere along the way, something unexpected happened.

We fell in love with the process - and the area.

The history. The characters. The stories hidden within old country pubs.

So, just when everyone thought we'd finally learned our lesson...

We've bought another one.

🍻 Welcome to our next adventure: The Light Horse Hotel, Harden Murrumburrah

Like the Wombat Hotel, it's a pub with a proud history, a special place in its community and a few chapters still waiting to be written.

The Wombat story isn't over. There's still work to do and plenty more chapters to share. 🐾

But now there's a new story beginning just down the road.

A new mission.

A new challenge.

And another old pub ready for a second chance.

One wall.

One wire.

One cold beer at a time.

CHAPTER SEVEN: TAMING THE OUTSIDE

While plenty was happening inside, the outside had a story of its own.

Overgrown gardens, tired garden beds and years of neglect had left the surrounds needing more than a quick tidy-up.

So out came the gloves, shovels and wheelbarrows.

We cut back, cleared out, weeded, pruned and replanted — slowly bringing some order back to the grounds and letting the old pub shine again.

It turns out bringing a pub back to life doesn't stop at the front door.

And, like everything else around here, the garden is still a work in progress.

🌿 One garden bed. One load of weeds. One more little piece of the Wombat Hotel brought back to life.

And we're not finished yet… there are still more chapters to come. 🍻🐾

CHAPTER SIX: LET THERE BE LIGHT (AND SAFE WIRING)

If walls could talk, the wiring would scream.

Circuits that made no sense. Switches that controlled entirely unrelated things – or had been disconnected, but no one had told the switch. Power trips that arrived without warning.

The verdict was unanimous: full electrical refit.

Kilometres of wire replaced. Every circuit rethought. The pub, at last, stopped flickering like a failing starship and started behaving like a place that was meant to welcome people safely.
