WHAT’S ON // The end of winter is almost here, but we’re not quite ready to pack away the cosy plans just yet.

There are still a few good weeks to squeeze in a local adventure before spring really gets going, and the Illawarra calendar is giving us plenty of reasons to get out.

Live music, markets, creative workshops, community events, good food and plenty of other things happening around the coast and across the region are all waiting to be added to the diary.

Soak up the last of the cooler days, rug up when you need to and make the most of what’s happening around the Illawarra before the season changes.

The local job hunt doesn’t have to mean falling into an internet rabbit hole for three hours.

Our Illawarra Job Board pulls local opportunities into one easy spot, and this month there are roles for a whole bunch of different careers.

Dog groomer, daycare assistant, cleaner, early childhood educator, graphic designer… and that’s just a tiny sneak peek.

Jobs are being added all the time, so it’s a good one to keep checking if you’re on the hunt, casually browsing or just curious about what’s happening on the local job front.

Who doesn’t love a cosy roast with this kind of chilly weather?

Crispy potatoes, seasonal veg, plenty of gravy and a generous serve of slow-cooked goodness (yuuum!). We’re very much on board with letting someone else handle Sunday lunch. 🤩

We’ve rounded up some of the Illawarra spots serving up a proper roast, including cosy pubs, country favourites and family-friendly options.

So if the cooler weather has you craving something hearty, have a peek at our guide and see where you can tuck into a good one.

Here's to Dad, the king of the backyard BBQ.

This Father's Day, someone else is manning the grill. Wagyu surf & turf with a sea view, share-style seafood feasts, towering breakfasts and Tomahawks made for carving around the table.

Clover Hill Trail is not your casual Sunday stroll, but ohhh it delivers.

Tucked into Macquarie Pass National Park, this Grade 5 walk brings the rainforest, the creek crossings, the giant boulders, the waterfalls and those hidden little pools that make you understand why people love a proper bush adventure..

Pack properly, know your limits and absolutely plan the food stop after. A Robbo pie or a pub feed at the bottom of the Pass just makes soo much sense. 👀

WHAT’S ON // One of Port Kembla’s most cherished community events is getting closer, and we already know it’s going to be a very special night! ✨

The Port Kembla Lantern Parade is happening on Thursday 20th August, bringing locals together for an evening filled with creativity, connection and plenty of community spirit.

As the sun goes down, handmade lanterns will light up the streets as the parade makes its way from Coomaditchie Lagoon through to Port Kembla Public School, with live entertainment, food and a whole lot of magical local moments along the way.

We just love seeing events like this that bring neighbours, families and friends together to celebrate the place they call home. A little winter outing, a little creativity, and a very good reason to rug up and head outside.

If you’re keen to make your own lantern, there’s still time! Warrawong Library has a dedicated lantern-making space open until the day of, so you can drop in during opening hours, get creative and bring your lantern along to the parade. Materials are provided, it’s free, and there’s no booking needed (just pop in while lantern-making supplies are available).

We can’t wait to see Port Kembla light up.

So we’ve pulled together the Illawarra updates making headlines this week into one handy, bite-sized read.

Council cadet, apprentice and trainee roles are open for 2027, plans are moving ahead for the Wollongong City Centre skatepark and MacCabe Park expansion, Bulli and Sublime Point lookout cafés could be getting a new chapter, and there are plenty more local updates across the region.
