Scarlett Clarkson has won a Darling Downs Bank/Condamine Sports Club/Town and Country Journal Junior Sports Star Award for the month of August after representing the region in cricket and AFL this year.
At 10 years of age, she made the regional teams for under-12 sport and also qualified for the Queensland Track and Field Championship in multiple events.
She represented the Darling Downs U12 AFL team at the Queensland State Championships in Cairns. Scarlett was named captain, a testament to her leadership qualities, maturity and commitment to her teammates.
Scarlett helped guide Darling Downs to two victories during the carnival and played an important role in the team being awarded the prestigious King Koker Award for team spirit and sportsmanship.
Her achievements continued into cricket, where Scarlett represented the Darling Downs U12 Girls Cricket Team at the state championships. She was a key contributor throughout the seven-match carnival as Darling Downs came fourth.
One of Scarlettβs standout performances came in a victory over Metropolitan North. She produced two incredible diving run-outs in the field before bowling the final over with eight runs to defend. With the game on the line, Scarlett handled the pressure and successfully closed out the match for her team.
Across the championships, Scarlett scored 107 runs at an average of 53.5 placing her 11th overall for runs. She also made an impact with the ball taking two wickets and contributing for three run-outs and a catch. She was 14th in champion player standings.
In athletics, Scarlett has continued to rewrite the record books. She broke the Warwick Central State School discus record for the second consecutive year, this time surpassing a record that had stood for more than 30 years by an incredible three metres. She also broke a shot putt record.
Scarlett then took her performances to another level at the Southern Downs carnival, breaking a more than 20-year-old discus record by just under 4m. She progressed to the Darling Downs Track and Field Championships, where she won gold medals in both discus and shot put, while also claiming bronze in the Under 11 Girls Tetrathlon.
Her tetrathlon performance further demonstrated her remarkable versatility, requiring her to compete across four very different disciplines β the 100m, 800m, long jump and shot put.
Those performances saw Scarlett qualify to represent Darling Downs at the Queensland State Track and Field Championships in discus, shot put and the tetrathlon.
She has won a $100 Savings Account with Darling Downs Bank.
Congratulations Scarlett! ππ»ππ»
