This week Wayne our Head Roaster had an unexpected visitor! A dragonfly decided his head was a safe landing spot [zoom in].

We’re not sure if it’s a sign of good luck…or if the dragonfly was simply incredibly perceptive, and drawn to Wayne’s calm, steady vibes 🧘🏽‍♂️

Established in 2003 by 464 women in northern Peru, Café Femenino® was created to address a systemic imbalance within coffee-growing communities. While women have always played a central role in coffee production, they were rarely recognised or directly compensated for their contributions.

Café Femenino® challenged this model by ensuring women are paid directly for their coffee, supporting land ownership in their own names, and creating clear pathways to leadership within cooperative structures. What began as a local initiative has since expanded across nine coffee-producing countries, providing a commercially viable framework that connects exceptional coffee quality with meaningful social progress.

A good day on the hill usually starts across the road. Our mates at open at 8 every day and they roast everything themselves out at Wesburn, so it's about as fresh as it gets around here. Grab a coffee and something out of the pastry cabinet before the first shuttle, then duck back over between laps. Shuttles go on the hour so there's always time, and you can never have too much coffee.

As the winter days begin to fade and the sunshine rolls in, there's nothing quite like swapping four walls for a picnic table and turning the café into the outdoor office.

Seeing local business people connecting, creating, and enjoying a little sunshine while they work is one of our favourite signs that brighter days are on the way.

Our latest addiction...CERRO SAN LUIS MICROMILL, COSTA RICA - FILTER

This is the kind of coffee that keeps calling you back — easy-drinking, comforting, delicious and nourishing, with enough character to keep you filling your cup throughout the day.

Try it on V60:
🔹️16g coffee / 300g water / 3ish minutes
Slowly spiral pour 50g to fully saturate → bloom for 20 seconds → gently swirl cone to agitate & distibute evenly → pour 250g of water in single pour.

Sniff, sip, repeat ☕️

☕️ NEW FILTER ROAST — CERRO SAN LUIS MICROMILL

From the West Valley of Costa Rica, meet our latest filter coffee: Cerro San Luis Micromill, a family-run operation in Grecia owned and operated by siblings Alexander & Magali Delgado and their spouses.

CHOCOLATE | RED W**E | STICKY DATE

Complex yet effortlessly quaffable, this coffee brings subtle layers of cooked fruit and chocolate, with a gentle touch of honey. Not too bright — just right. Expect a beautiful aroma, smooth body, and a moreish finish that shines in your pour-over, V60, or drip setup.

At Cerro San Luis, cherries from the family’s farms are brought to their home micromill for processing. This lot is Yellow Honey processed, meaning the cherry skin is removed while 25–75% of the sweet mucilage remains on the beans as they dry in direct sunlight. As the mucilage oxidises, it takes on its characteristic golden-yellow hue.

The family has also invested heavily in quality, introducing 10+ different coffee varieties to their farms over recent years as they continue to improve their coffees and remain competitive.

A thoughtful family operation, careful processing, and a seriously tasty cup.
