As we are about to enter our 20th year at Dosa House, I’ve been thinking about how far we’ve come.

Dosa House didn’t start as a restaurant. It started as a humble little stall at the Thursday Organic Markets. Back then, not many people even knew what a dosa was. I wanted to share my dream of the home style South Indian food that I grew up with.

What I’m most grateful for is the people we’ve met along the way. So many customers have become friends, and so many memories have stayed with me.

I still remember the lovely sisters who first met us at the market stall. They still come almost every weekend, and I’ll never forget how they helped us set up our griddle in those early days. We were just starting out, and their kindness meant so much to me.

I remember the little girl who brought me a curry plant.. She’s now a teenager. We still get curry leaves from that plant.

The Barker College teachers who came every Friday, order “the usual” and sat together after a long week.

The lovely train driver couple who have been with us for years.

The lovely couple who orders the 2 takeaway masala dosas every Saturday. Your support means so much

The couple who always order cheese channa and chicken curry with rice.

Our youngest customer from the earliest days of business who used to sit in her high chair enjoying her sambar.

The couple who always order an uthappam without onion.

The couple who drive all the way from the Central Coast and always ask for Mysore masala with extra potato.

The family whose favourite is always the ghee onion dosa.

The teacher’s family. I still remember when her husband came in to tell me they had just welcomed their new baby. That little baby is now a teenager and she has an younger sister. Both like the soft cheese dosai.

The lovely couple from The Grange who visit every Saturday. We always end up talking for ages before they head home.

And to everyone who comes in and simply says, “I’ll have the usual” thank you. Those two little words mean the world to us because they remind us that you’ve made Dosa House part of your lives.

Running a small family business has been challenging but it’s people like you who have made everything worthwhile.

As we celebrate 20 years, we’d love to hear your memories.

When did you first discover Dosa House? Do you have a favourite meal, a special memory, or someone you always came with? We’d love for you to share your stories and photos in the comments.

Thank you for letting us be part of your lives for the past 19 years. Here’s to many more memories together. ❤️

The Dosa House in Waitara serves traditional South Indian cuisine including Dosai, Idly and Vadai. A simple store and low cost menu makes this a spot well worth visiting for a quick lunch.
