The Grumpy Baker is a family-run cafe and bakery business, created in 2002 by Michael Cthurmer, and now with 10+ locations around Sydney, Newcastle and Bilpin, baking good old fashioned sourdough bread, pastries and pies.

One roll to rule them all... It’s World Sausage Roll Day tomorrow, Friday 5 June 📅 and you know what that means! It’s time to hit us up for one of the largest, tastiest sausage rolls in town.

Big, buttery, and baked daily on-site at each of our locations, our addictively-good sausage rolls are made with premium slow-braised beef, a hint of Middle Eastern spices, and a touch of sweetness courtesy of a secret ingredient: dates. 🤫

You might already know the Grumpy one behind Grumpy Baker, Michael. But have you met Lily? 👋

Lily had The Grumpy Baker quite literally baked into her life from a young age - as Michael’s youngest daughter, she was raised among the early mornings, warm ovens and steady rhythm of bakery life.

A few years on, Lily is now our Business Manager, overseeing day-to-day operations across our 11 stores. 🥐🥧☕

It’s a bit of a process to get this delicious dough from go to whoa, so we currently indulge in makings them on Sundays at just two locations for now - Potts Point and Vaucluse.
