This was meant to be for a Pirates of the Caribbean collaboration, but unfortunately they didn’t get enough people put in submissions, so if it goes ahead in a year or so I will make something different. This was just too much fun not to share now.
I have depicted Captain Armando Salazar from Dead Men Tell No Tales as I wanted to create one of the bad guys. Being part of the deadly ghost sailors gave me the chance to play with a simple colour palette.
I created a cookie that was covered in Royal Icing, and the background was hand painted using diluted gel colours, and the writing was piped on. The face and body were sculpted using Saracino pasta model. The face was coloured by dusting with The Sugar Art Turkish Black, before airbrushing and then painting with SWEET STICKS™ Edibleart Paint. The eyes and the lips have been glazed to add shine. His coat ha been dusted with an edible dust.
I love how the side photos show the dimensions I have created by using the pasta model.

I feel so grateful to have been nominated for the 2026 ACADA Cake Oscar Award for the 2026 ROYAL ICED COOKIE ARTIST OF THE YEAR.
This is a special award recognises the work of the best of the best Royal Iced Cookie decorators in Australasia, and if you have seen how much time I spend decorating cookies you will understand why this means so much to me.

Looking forward to demonstrating Royal Buttercream cookies at the Cake Decorators’ Guild of NSW Golden West Branch on the 11th of July. I will be demonstrating my dinosaur egg and eye which I made using similar techniques as I did to make my dinosaur cookie that was part of an international sugar art collaboration.
