MARIE-FRANCE ROSE — A RETROSPECTIVE
You’re invited to the opening of Art Post Uki’s latest exhibition, this Thursday 3 September at 6pm.

Warm, joyful and full of humour, Marie-France’s distinctive works sit somewhere between sculpture and painting. She hand-builds figures and objects from clay, attaches them to canvas, then paints over and around them — creating paintings with texture and dimension.

Inspired by people, nature, village life and the places she travelled, her work has an unmistakable sense of optimism.

Marie-France used to say, “I love observing people and nature. I love to freeze the moment.” Tragically, Marie-France died in June this year, but she leaves a wonderful collection of work that continues to bring joy to those who see it.

Come share a Picnic in the Park before the Art Post show, with street food from Gunter’s Wood Fired Pizza and music by Loren & the Choosedays, 3.15–6pm.

Exhibition continues until 14 October.

Before Art Post Uki was Art Post Uki…
Gary Wall was looking for a way out of corporate life. He spotted the old Uki Post Office for sale and had an idea: why not buy a post office, roast coffee and create a place for people to gather?

The art gallery came soon after.

In 2019, Gary sat down with Timothy Stackpool for Inside the Gallery, talking about the unlikely mix of art, coffee, community and a 1909 post office that became Art Post Uki.

It’s a lovely little time capsule of our early days — and a reminder that sometimes the best ideas are the ones that don’t quite make sense on paper.

Our latest exhibition by AETAOMAH SCHOOL - WONDER.
At Aetaomah School, art begins with learning to see shape, movement and colour and letting imagination take it from there. Straight lines, curved, repeated, explored.

WONDER brings together 55 works by Aetaomah students, offering a glimpse into the beautifully uninhibited way children interpret the world around them.

Now showing at Art Post Uki until 2 September.

It’s a celebration of young minds seeing beauty in the everyday, where colour, form and storytelling unfold with refreshing honesty.

‘Wonder’ Paintings from Aetaomah School. OPENING at Art Post Uki, Thursday 6 August, 3:15pm.

This latest exhibition, the Wonder of Children’s Art from Aetaomah School invites you to see the world through the eyes of a child.
‘Wonder’ is the 71st exhibition at Art Post Uki and the fourth exhibition by students from Aetaomah School.

Featuring 55 paintings, felt works and drawings, these joyful artworks are created through the Steiner/Waldorf approach, where imagination, creativity and colour take centre stage.

Honest, expressive and full of wonder, they remind us to see beauty in the everyday.

Join us for the opening and come beforehand to Picnic In The Park - for deliciously crafted wood-fired pizzas by Gunter, together with music by The Choosedays 🍕 🎶

Our 70th exhibition is drawing to a close, here are a few things you may not know about the remarkable Matt Ottley.
Fittingly, Matt was the very first artist to exhibit at Art Post Uki, making this milestone exhibition a special full-circle moment.

Photo 1. The Day the Sky Touched Me was commissioned for the cover of The Lancet Psychiatry. It captures the heightened creativity of hypomania and the complex realities behind it. Inspired by Matt’s lived experience, the work explores a mind blossoming with extraordinary creativity — often a warning sign to the darker side of the condition.

Matt is an internationally acclaimed artist, author and composer whose work has reached audiences around the world.

This is your final chance to experience Ephemera and the Eternal Sky before the exhibition closes on Wednesday 5 August.

Nothing in Matt Ottley’s paintings is quite what it first appears.

The Impermanence of Being and the Constant of Vanity — oil on linen. A familiar beach scene becomes a meditation on human behaviour.
A whale has killed itself on the beach, whilst some of the humans, scorching in the sun, are doing the same but much more slowly for the sake of vanity.

In works from “The Day”… series, the ordinary slips effortlessly into the surreal—The Day Geraldine and I Stowed Away and The Day the Sky Touched Me, each inviting curiosity, humour and reflection in equal measure.

Spend time with these remarkable works and you’ll find yourself discovering something new with every viewing—and perhaps still thinking about them long after you’ve left the gallery.
