Three works by Antoinette Edmunds currently featured in her exhibition.
No. 8 – Shadow Life & No. 12 – All Shall Be Revealed (images 1 - 2)
Inspired by Carl Jung’s concept of the shadow self, these companion works explore the divided nature of the human mind. One dog represents the disciplined, admired self; the other, the instinctive and hidden side drawn to what lies beneath the surface. As the title suggests, all shall be revealed when the darker, buried aspects of ourselves can no longer remain concealed. Rather than opposites of good and evil, both dogs are reflections of the same human soul.
No. 2 – Pimp My Doberman
A blue-painted Doberman poses proudly beside a chicken while a nervous dachshund shelters below. Through humour and exaggerated styling, Edmunds playfully explores how people project their personalities, status and identities onto their pets—transforming them into living accessories, while not every animal is quite as enthusiastic about the attention.
Catch ‘Intelligent Companions’ now showing at Art Post Uki. Exhibition closes 24 June.
