Fishing club members, this weekend coming is the last Goblet competition of our calendar year.
August is the last Goblet competition. We save the best for last as this month's Goblet fish is MORWONG. A much sought after award amongst the outside fishing members. One of Gavin's most valued fish. Just ask him.
This weekend is the last chance to gain those valuable points and decide who are our category winners for the year.
Competition starts this Friday 14th at 4pm with Measure In on Sunday 16th at 2pm to be held at the Tuross Club. Followed by a BBQ lunch.
After lunch the Tuross Fishing Club will hold its AGM . Where annual reports will be given and all committee positions will be elected for the coming year. And discuss any upcoming issues.
We will also be voting on who you deem to be the Club Person of the Year.
We hope to see as many Fishing club members as possible for this important day.
Weather for this coming weekend I'm sorry to say may not be looking too promising with another cold front possibly moving through our region. So take care if the weather is a bit unpleasant.
As always, try to send me your fish details as early as possible.

The club enjoyed a fabulous weekend away at Waragun Lodge, Thredbo, thanks to Mike & Stephanie who hosted. Great scenery, plenty of trout fishing and bushwalking optiond, fantastic accommodation and of course great company

Once again I have forcast near perfect weather conditions for our Fishing Club's Goblet Competition. The only thing wrong was the quantity of Garfish to be found. These elusive little fish lived up to their reputation. However I did manage to record 14 Garfish. Overall for the weekend I recorded 69 fish by 18 members with 13 different species. A great effort by our members.
The winner of the February Goblet went to David Backhouse catching the best Garfish of the weekend at 27.9cm worth 116.04 pts. Congratulations to David, you should have been fishing Outside.
Mens Lake and Estuary winner was David Backhouse with his 27.9cm Garfish.
Women's lake and Estuary was won by Carol Kenney catching a garfish 25.3cm worth 98.7pts.
Mens outside was won by the "Birthday Boy" Gavin Robinson with a Pigfish 41cm worth 106.16pts.
Women's outside winner was Jeanie Dixon for bringing up a large rock? No it was a Sand Flathead 47cm worth 73.75pts.
No winner for Mens Rock and Beach.
Women's Rock and Beach was won finally by Rachel Weatherby catching a Bream 29cm worth 56.68pts.
Junior award was given to Chris Westbury catching a Mullet 40cm worth 74.4pts.
Mystery Fish was no. 11 Morwong 44cm. Nearest was Birthday Boy Gavin Robinson proudly catching a Morwong of 42cm.
Turkey of the Month or "Story of the Month". Gavin Robinson driving down the highway early on Saturday was daydreaming about the large Morwong he hoped to catch and ignored the call that there is a Kangaroo standing on the road. Too late to brake, he runs over the poor Kangaroo. Later after crossing the Moruya bar entrance they look up in the sky and there is a cloud. It looked like the shape of a Kangaroo. Was this a heavenly message?
Next month's Goblet Competition is to be held on March 20th-21st-22nd the target Goblet fish will be TAILOR.
Only two weeks to go before the Flathead and Bream Tournament, the number of entrants are looking to be over 200, making for a great event. Help by members is going to be greatly appreciated, if you are able to help let us know.

Members get your floats ready and make your nice smelly burly for this coming weekend. It is our monthly Goblet competition and GARFISH are our Goblet target fish for the weekend's competition. Garfish are wonderful tasting fish but can be a bit tricky to catch. Using burly easily attracts them around the boat. A float with a lite line,small hooks and a small piece of bait is the best way to catch these great little fighters. Don't be surprised if you attract other species of fish in the burly trail.
Fishing starts Friday 20th at 4pm and will conclude on Sunday 22nd. at 4pm. Measure In time is 4pm. To be held at the Tuross Club with a BBQ to follow.
Please let us know if you are attending for catering numbers.
It is important with Garfish that you measure the fish tail first. Length is taken from the tail to end of the lower mouth, not the end of the beak.
As normal please try to submit your two best of each species to me as early as possible.
With details of kept or released and category, Lake ,Beach or Outside.
The Flathead and Bream Tournament ,March 6th-7th-8th is not far away. Numbers are looking good and we ask members to help volunteer with any little job. On Sunday we will be discussing what we will need regarding the event.

We don't like to hear stories like this...

We have been contacted by Luke Turner who had a Minn Kota Riptide trolling motor stolen from the Tuross Lakeside Holiday Park the other night. (Shortly before Saturday 31 January.)
It had a different head on it to allow for remote control and spotlight / GPS etc. So it is a bit distinctive.
Can you please message us if you hear anything on the grapevine?
Could’ve been a local or a traveller at the park but who knows…

The fishing club held its annual presentation awards night on November 29th, a great night was had by all !

Fishing Comp report from last weekend:
Members enjoyed better than forecasted weather conditions for fishing over the weekend. Friday afternoon fishing on the beach was wonderful with a large orange full moon rising. Saturday proved to be warm with no strong winds blowing as forecast. But a strong southerly wind did blow on Sunday but did not deter members from fishing.
I recorded 49 fish at the Measure In by 13 members with 9 different species of fish being caught.
Blackfish was the target goblet fish and many members took up the challenge, with floats out waiting for that down hoping to hook a Blackfish.
The winner only by a couple of millimetres was our Junior Champion Chris Westbury. Giving him his first Goblet award for this season. Chris’s Blackfish measured at 40.3 cm worth 96.5pts.
Mens Lake and Estuary winner was Marshall Howarth catching a Bream 35.5cm worth 100.64pts.
Women's lake and Estuary winner was Carol Kenney with a Flounder 28cm worth 50.01pts. Good to see Carol in the boat again after her knee surgery.
Mens Rock and Beach winner was Mark Jackson catching a Trevally 43.5cm worth 111.8pts.
No winners in the Women's Rock and Beach category and no winners in the Mens and Women's Outside category.
Junior winner was Christopher Westbury with his Blackfish 40.3cm worth 96.5pts.
Mystery fish no. 24 Trevally 29.2cm was proudly won by Neil Alexander who caught a Trevally off the beach of 32.8cm.
Turkey of the Month went to Bruce Kennedy for not securing his rod properly in the rod holder, one good fish bite and over the side went Bruce's rod. Luckily he hooked the rod again and John netted it.
Was that the catch of the day?
Thanks to everyone for attending the Measure In Xmas party and bringing presents for each other to share. Next Goblet weekend will be on January 23rd-24th-25th with the target fish being Whiting. Until then I wish all our members a Merry Xmas and a Happy New Year.
