Meet my friend Marita, boarding school bestie and within 2 minutes of seeing each other we were back like it was 1995

I’m home from a brilliant weekend away.
And while my reunion was fun.
And I got to see my son.
The best part of my weekend was finding my independence again.
It’s easy to settle in to only going away when it’s the two of you.
It’s so common for me to make an excuse of why I wouldn’t.
It’s too easy to use the it’s too far or takes so long.
But this time I made the commitment, made a new playlist and I loved it.
3 whole days of my music and the loudness I wanted it.
3 days of missing turns and just thinking who cares, I’ll get the next one.
3 days of friendships.
This is my reminder to myself and to whoever needs to hear it.
It’s ok to do something for you.
It’s ok to say I’m a better parent when I get a break.
It’s ok to not have the same interests as your partner.
It’s ok to put yourself first.
It’s ok to make plans just for you.
Happy Monday my friends x

I haven’t had the words to post recently.
I have snippets but I usually try to theme a post.
I can’t do that at the moment.
This evening you get me. Unedited. Not particularly polished. But real.

Be kind. Always. Non negotiable. We will always be humbled when we let this slip as we have absolutely no idea what people have going on in their own lives.

Be consistent. At home. In your health. In your workplace. As a friend. As a parent. In your family.

Remember your morals. Don’t forget what’s important to you. Remove yourself from situations that just don’t sit right with you.

Be brave. Speak up, even when your voice wobbles. Good people don’t deserve the consequences bad people do. Don’t let them get away with it.

There is a difference between arrogance and confidence.

It’s ok to say no. It’s ok to not want to go somewhere. It’s ok to choose you.

Don’t ever be music shamed. It’s not for anyone else, just you.

Remember to breathe. Seriously.
Take a minute.
Breathe in. Breathe out.

Lots of love

I’ve had a lot of comments & messages about the food prep I do.
If only they had the time.
I wish I could do that.
I am 100% the first one to put my hand up and say it is challenging - to be polite - to fit in a week what we want too.
But it can be done. We just have to learn to prioritise and time manage. And my priorities aren’t the same as yours & that’s ok.
I’ve said this before, roll your eyes if you like, I’m a goal setter. Also a massive advocate for small goals. Mini achievable ones. Tick that off and feel good about it! Can be as small as hanging your clothes in your wardrobe not over a chair. Buying 1 less take away meal a week. Whatever you want to do.
If anyone’s up for a challenge this week here’s what I want you to do. Write a list, I use my notes in my phone all the time for this stuff.
List 5 changes you’d like to make in your life.
5 things that you think could make you happier & your life easier. Maybe it’s things you want to really push and achieve. It can be as simple as drinking 2 litres a day. Pay someone a compliment.
And my next part is this. If & only if you want to hold yourself accountable, feel free to message me your 5 and let’s check in on Sunday and see how you went.
I’ll share my 5 with you if you share with me.
Monday, let’s do this!
Let’s remember to be kind, to think before we speak, to be supportive, to prioritise ourselves and remember we never ever know the full extent of what people are going through.
Have a good week my friends x

To be clear this is not a cry for help, this is not me looking for pity & it’s certainly not me complaining about my life.
This is me having a week of feeling overwhelmed & trying to normalise the feelings. Acknowledging that some areas of my life are sitting around 80% this week & that’s ok.
Some may be less. Maybe even 70%.
I am a self confessed organiser, I thrive having extra things on the go & I, normally, love the challenges life throws at you.
Except this week. Did I mention I had a snake encounter at work this week?? While on social media you see the pics of the meal prepping & the walk pics, in the background I’m having daily mini hissy fits that I’m behind in my washing, the light in our bedroom isn’t working and it’s not just the globe, I’ve started 5 projects at home and not finished 1 of them, a mid week community meeting to fit in, someone forgot to buy milk, the car was unregistered for a week and where the f**k are my glasses??
How am I supposed to work full time, get my steps in, perform well at work, keep on top of home life, give my kids & husband the attention they deserve, eat enough protein, keep in contact with friends, be involved in community and still get the amount of sleep/down time in I want?
So here’s how I plan to manage that.
I’m having a weekend of not saying yes to too many things.
Today I am starting with coffee in bed, scrolling and writing this post because those things are things I love to do. So they are my priority.
I’ll do a bit of cleaning and washing to start the week again.
And 1 area. Today I will tackle 1 area that is making my life harder than it should.
And for you, I just hope you’re remembering to smile, to have a laugh, be kind not just to others but also yourself and if you fed your kids party pies not once but twice last week it’s ok, the important thing is you fed them.
Happy Saturday my friends x

Did you know …
My first “shop front” was in the Ritz when they had a gift section out the back?
My second was next door to the Tumby Bay butchers with Craig & Tony Higgins
These were both fresh flower shop fronts.
When we moved to Wudinna I was offered a cooking job and I had no idea what I was doing.
I created a vision board on a canvas and 2 years later Alicia’s Cafe opened.
When Covid hit & we decided to dig in and keep working my treat to myself was Pedro my “mini” dachshund
At 44 I was offered an opportunity to go into Real Estate in a Property Management role which I am still doing but also teasingly close to being qualified to sell as well.
We bought a house this year in Tumby Bay and have been dabbling in home Reno’s/making it our own since.
I am a goal setter, a planner, a dreamer, I am equally as good at time management as I am at procrastinating and I love to challenge myself.
This gorgeous puppies name is Millie

I’ve returned from a week away from home. And I’ve loved it.
Long weekend in the hills with beautiful friends. Too many white wines, good food and the best company.
Monday I flew to the Gold Coast to attend my first Harcourts conference. I have had the most uplifting time away & feel so lucky I was able to go.
What has surprised me though, from listening to a variety of guest speakers, is what I’ve taken away from this.
I feel inspired. Motivated. Enthusiastic.
I’ve set myself some new goals.
I’m exhausted but at the same time energised.
I wrote so many notes in my phone from the conference.
My favourite for today is “your results won’t be consistent until you are”
I’ve had a good week & it’s ok to say that.
It’s ok to say I’ve spent time away from home and I enjoyed it.
It’s ok to say I want to improve myself & do better.
I am so excited for what’s to come & I’m so eager for what I can achieve.
Happy weekend
