Tumbarumba Annual Tournament Draws Golfers from Across the Region
The annual Tumbarumba Golf Tournament was once again a great success, with 58 golfers teeing off in picturesque conditions and enjoying a fantastic day of golf, competition and camaraderie.
Golfers travelled from across the region to take part in the popular annual event, keen to test themselves on the Tumbarumba course and compete for the various prizes on offer.
While conditions were slightly wet underfoot, the course was looking and playing in immaculate condition. The hard work of the volunteers in preparing the course was certainly evident, with the fairways, greens and surrounds providing an excellent challenge for golfers throughout the day.
In the Open Scratch, Wayne Dubois came away with the honours after posting an impressive score of 75. Wayne’s consistent round saw him finish on top in a strong field and claim the major scratch prize for the tournament.
The A Grade Stableford competition was closely contested, with Andrew Hockey producing an excellent round to finish with 39 points and take the A Grade title. Andrew’s solid performance throughout the round ensured he finished at the top of the leaderboard.
Rob Christian was the winner of B Grade, finishing with 34 points. Rob also featured in the novelty events, making it a particularly successful day on the course for him.
In C Grade, John Lebner took the honours with 34 points, putting together a steady round to claim the grade victory.
The women’s competition was also keenly contested, with Angie Widdison taking out the Women’s Stableford with 30 points. Angie’s consistent play throughout the day was enough to secure the win and add another highlight to an enjoyable tournament.
The novelty events provided plenty of extra interest throughout the day. Ken Primmer and Tim Widdison claimed the nearest-to-the-pin prizes, rewarding some accurate shots on the designated holes. The nearest-to-string honours were shared by John McMaugh and Wesley Goldspink, with both players finishing closest to the string.
The longest drives were shared among Justin Knott, Rob Christian, John Lebner and Sharon Burgess, with each player showing plenty of power off the tee to claim the honours in their respective events.
Following the golf, competitors and guests gathered for a well-earned meal provided by Chezza’s Kitchen. The meal was a great opportunity for everyone to relax after the day’s competition, catch up with fellow golfers and share stories from out on the course.
The presentation followed the meal, with winners receiving their prizes and plenty of congratulations being handed out. The day was then rounded out with the raffle, adding another bit of excitement and giving everyone the chance to take home a prize.

Alex also acknowledged the important contribution made by the club’s volunteers. A great deal of work goes on behind the scenes to have the course prepared and the tournament organised, and their time and effort was greatly appreciated.
With a strong field of 58 players, excellent course conditions and plenty of friendly competition, the Tumbarumba Annual Tournament proved to be another enjoyable event. The support from visiting golfers, local members, sponsors and volunteers all helped make the day a success and highlighted the strong community spirit surrounding golf in Tumbarumba.
