Growning up in a small, typical French family, food is really important. I cooked with my parents, being passionate about simple and tasty french food. I spent my summer holidays in Britanny, in the North-West of France, enjoying life sailing, being on the open ocean and developing a taste for homely style baking. I would buy Madeleine in the « boulangerie » (bakery) on my street after school with

my pocket money. Arriving in Australia, I wanted to share the passion of simple and tasty french food from my background, showing that there is more to French cuisine then just fancy glamourous food. Food for me is about simple and delicate flavours, gathering of family and friends to share and enjoy the tastes and conversation. Thus the idea for Gavé was born. The term « Gavé » has multiple meaning. Traditionally it's a verb which means « to be full up ». But more personally, it is used as a slag word in Bordeaux which is where I met my Australian partner. In Bordeaux, people use the term « gavé » as an adjective to insist something is « fully » or « very » , for example : « gavé bon » : « very good ».

We were trying to negotiating for months for a perfect space to welcome you, organise beautiful workshops, and support local businesses as well.

Unfortunately, the space is no longer for us, and we are out of options for now.

We want to thank you all for your amazing support! ❤️

And hopefully it’s not the end of the road for us

I’ve decided to put Gavé on a undetermined break as being a parent has taken a lot out of me .

🇫🇷Festival Lockdown Update🇫🇷

Due to the change in Public Health Orders, we are extremely disappointed to announce that the Bastille Day French Festival will not proceed as planned this weekend at Fed Square. 😢
The safety of the community remains our priority during this time. In the spirit of the Revolution though, nothing will keep us down and our fighting spirit will rise up!

We are thrilled to let you know we have a huge🔸online program🔸that you can tune into this weekend! From tomorrow, Friday 16 July, you’ll be able to access our full online program for free via our website. Sit back, relax and enjoy some virtual joie de vivre with online treats including the documentary Home Shift Home, performances by soprano Lorena Stipani and pianist David McNicol, cooking by Gabriel Gâté, Jump by the Huxleys and more!
All you need to do is head to our website, Friday at 10am. Les Lumières talks and Trivia will also move online. If you have a ticket, we will be in touch with all the Zoom details (the dates and times remain the same). If you don’t have a ticket, there is still time to book!

While we can’t meet in person this weekend, we hope we can catch up on line. We look forward to staying connected while distanced.
