When you are a young person experiencing homelessness it is hard to engage in school, find a job or get into the rental market. And you are more likely to experience substance abuse, poor nutrition, and mental health problems such as depression or anxiety. That is why Base Services/2nd shot traineeship works hard not only to provide lunchtime meals but also to provide training, employment, and wraparound support to help young people exit homelessness and break the cycle of unemployment.

A Message to Our Community ❤️

Over the past 10 years, 2nd Shot has been about much more than coffee and food. It has been about people, purpose, second chances, and creating opportunities for those who need them most.

As part of an exciting new chapter, we have relocated our 2nd Shot street-front café to the Toowoomba TAFE campus and have also made the difficult decision to sell our food truck and coffee vans.

These decisions have not been easy. In fact, they have been some of the toughest decisions we've had to make. However, as a social enterprise, we must continue to ensure we are sustainable, profitable, and able to fulfil our purpose long into the future.

The good news is that we are staying true to our mission. We are keeping our team, continuing to create opportunities for people, and focusing on building a stronger future so we can keep changing lives for many years to come.

Our only regret is that we won't get to see so many of our wonderful customers every day at our Ruthven Street store. The friendships, conversations, and support we've received from this community have meant more than words can express.

To everyone who has bought a coffee, shared a meal, attended an event, encouraged our team, or supported our journey—thank you. Your support has helped us make a real difference in the lives of people in our community.

While this chapter is closing, we're incredibly excited about what lies ahead.

We truly believe the best is yet to come.

This year we have mums, dads, nanas, granddads, children, aunts, uncles, individuals, families and pets going homeless for a night - why? Because homelessness does not discriminate it affects men, women and children who, for various reasons, become homeless.
