I’ve been thinking a lot about small business lately and what it actually takes to keep the doors open. No doubt your ears are all bleeding from hearing about card fees this past week..
I’m not usually one to publicly speak about government, policies or the economy. But I care deeply about small business and lately it’s been hard to watch. ‘Good’ genuine businesses closing their doors, not because they didn’t care or that they didn’t work hard enough (quite the opposite) but because eventually the numbers just don’t stack up. Small business’s aren’t just numbers, they are people, families, teams, dreams and communities. Behind every small business is a person who took a risk and believed in something.

The last 12 months particularly the last 6 have been a huge mental load. The late nights, the hard decisions, the worry, knowing people are relying on me.
Yes we have our busy days, but like everyone we have our quiet days too. You can crunch the numbers all you like, but the outcome remains the same. Our government is failing small business.

We need more room to breathe, room to employ, room to grow, room to keep building. We’re not asking for an easy run, just a little more understanding. When business can no longer absorb rising costs, the consequences spread far beyond the business owner. The ripple effect is huge. Employees, families, customers, suppliers and communities are all affected.

Our lease is up for renewal at the end of this year. Have I considered not resigning? Yes I have. However, I’m far too passionate about what we’ve created here in Tintinara to walk away, so I’m prepared to take the risk. Another 12 months, that I suspect might be the hardest yet…

The message here is simple, keep supporting small business and consider paying with cash if you are able. You’ll be helping us out in a big way! We appreciate every sale, cash or card, because we understand eating out, coffee and treats are becoming luxury items for so many.
To all our regulars, I absolutely see you! We appreciate you. Thank you.
