We're biased here, obviously but what sort of monster comes up with this? No beetroot, in fact no roughage at all; excluding the bread it looks exactly the same as it would coming out!

After a few weeks without an opportunity to sample a quintessential local delicacy, Admin is back to acid test Paul's Famous (they really are) at Sylvania, arguably the most awarded HWTL in Sydney.

Meat:

An oversized with cheese and onion added at the grill. Very tasty though as it was rush hour and multiple were on the grill at once, mine may possibly have cooked slightly too long as it needed the cheese for a little bit of moisture. 6.5/10

Fillings:

All of the staples; extremely fresh (on clear display) and plenty of it. It appears the default burger sauce is tomato (switched that up to BBQ) which I find a little strange. One slight criticism is that being so busy, the production line construction meant there's not a heap of care taken with the distribution across the burger; plenty of beetroot one side, not enough on the other etc. 8/10

Bun:

Not quite up to holding an oversized beef. Traditional hamburger bun which was fresh but not really big enough for the largest burger on the menu. 5/10

Sides:

Small chips with chicken salt. Unreal. Piping hot, crunchy, obviously cooked in clean oil and a huge serve for a small. 10/10

Price:

A HWTL, small chips and 600mL drink will set you back $19.40. A little steeper than your average takeaway joint but understandable considering the position of the shop. 6/10

Overall, Paul's Famous comes out with a total score of 35.5/50 or 71%. An award winning burger joint that produced a quality HWTL experience. Probably would have scored a bit higher had it not have been so busy (which is obviously a good endorsement). Either way, definitely recommend!

After the poll earlier in the week, Admin is back to review his local HWTL, using ratings /10 across multiple categories. This one was purchased from Jannali Village Seafood and is known as the 'Deluxe'.

Meat:

Minced meat pattie, flattened with the tools; really tasty, though spread a little thin over the width of the bun which meant it was cooked slightly unevenly around the edge. 7/10

Fillings:

Bacon, Egg, Cheese, Lettuce, Tomato, Onion, Beetroot, Pineapple, BBQ Sauce; fresh, well portioned, Pineapple cooked and on top of the bacon, delicious. Only criticism is there could have been more Beetroot. 9/10

Bun:

Traditional burger bun, lightly toasted. 7/10

Sides:

In order to provide a fair test, I'll judge on the gear in the photo (not the multiple other times I've been there). Chips this time around a little disappointing; plenty of them with lots of chicken salt but during the busy period they needed a bit more time in the good oil and I got far too many ch**es. 5/10

Price:

A standalone Deluxe will set you back an even $9. Admin went with the chips and 600mL combo (Solo for the drink) at $15. Considering the quality of the burger and the fact that I know this was an ordinary batch of usually high-quality chips, a very reasonable Sunday night purchase. 7/10

Jannali Village Seafood enter the books with a respectable combined total of 35/50 or 7/10. I'm torn as to whether I would give many points for the sensual pose on the oddly chosen mermaid on the decal if I could but luckily we're not about beauty on the outside at HWTL. Anybody in and around the Shire looking for a quality HWTL could do far worse than travelling to Box Rd, possibly when you can't get a table at the new pub!

On a tip from a friendly local over a Sunday schooner, Acacia Takeaway Food at Kirrawee became the first cab off the rank in our quest for the best.

At $8.10 (strange rounding but less than half the cost of your basic Americanised variety) the 'Oz with the Lot' pictured packed a formidable punch. Beef, bacon, egg, cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, beetroot, pineapple and BBQ sauce on a traditional burger bun; all the building blocks of what is obviously a much loved local product, which the stream of hi-vis-sporting patrons through the door would no doubt attest to.

All up two of these beauties, a medium chips and two Pasito's will set you back $23, the same price as one measley 'Kevin Bacon' (very clever) burger at a nearby chain establishment, that will remain nameless.
