STUMP F@&$— Oracle of the Valley

Stump F is a self-taught artist born in Naarm and now living and creating on beautiful Gumbaynggirr Country.

Working across acrylic, watercolour, sculpture and ink, their practice draws from naïve art — a style celebrated for its instinctive approach, simplified forms, bold colour , raw, playful honesty that gives Stump F’s work its distinctive charm.

Inspired by the natural world and the people around them, they create provocative, forested fairytale worlds that are whimsical, strange and sometimes dark — bringing light and attention to what lives in the shadows.

Oracle of the Valley is a love letter to their Greek and Balkan ancestors and to the valley that has held them within its rivers and mountains for the past five years. Drawing on traditions of divination through cards and coffee grounds, superstition and protective ritual with a fascination with the world beyond the veil.

Whimsical. Mystical. Raw. A little strange.

Kyle Wilkinson is a Sydney-based contemporary artist whose work explodes with colour, humour, nostalgia and personality.

Moving between painting and illustration, Wilkinson transforms Sydney streets, harbour icons, suburban life, pop culture and Australian characters into bold, energetic worlds. His distinctive style combines vivid colour, graphic linework and playful storytelling, often with a sharp edge of social commentary.

🚨An original Reg Mombassa, in Waterloo.

The Black Canoe Gallery is proud to present The Australian Jesus with an Alien, an original work by Chris O’Doherty, aka Reg Mombassa.

In the mid-1990s, Reg’s iconic Australian Jesus series for Mambo offered a strange, funny and bold take on Australian identity, suburbia and religion. Reg’s influence stretched beyond canvas into music too he was a founding member of the iconic Australian band Mental As Anything.

I remember seeing Mambo shirts growing up. I couldn’t afford one, but I never forgot the artwork.

Now, all these years later, to have an original Reg Mombassa hanging and sharing in my OWN gallery.

From remembering those Mambo shirts as a kid to now having the privilege of presenting an original work in a gallery I created — cute full circle moment.

The Australian Jesus with an Alien is part of The Black Canoe Birthday Collection — an original piece connected to an iconic moment in Australian art, design and popular culture.
