On Mother’s Day… I have some thoughts… 💕
Before I had kids, I had one wish… to be a role model for them. Someone they could look up to and respect and perhaps even be inspired by.
Before I became a mum, I envisaged this manifesting through my career as a journalist — that this would be how they (& I) measured my success. Life had other plans for me, and instead I built this little cake business… and not only have my kids become such a beautiful part of it all, it has also done the very thing I always hoped for: it made me the role model I always wanted to be.
What I never expected was how proudly they would embrace it too. They tell their friends what I do with such excitement, hand out my business details to complete strangers, and always want to be involved — whether that’s helping at markets, workshops or parties. They don’t just see the cakes… they see the work, the passion and the heart behind it all.
Seeing my eldest proudly bake and decorate these cupcakes completely on her own honestly fills my heart in a way I can’t properly put into words. The late nights, the messy kitchen, the juggling act of motherhood and business — moments like this make it all feel worth it.
There’s no greater gift than seeing your children inspired by you, not because you told them to be, but because they’ve been watching you quietly all along 🤍
