Hi Friends and colleagues
I’ve started making a film about my father and his relationship with a group of Bohemians in the 1920’s and the 1930’s. He encouraged them to come to his restaurant which they did every Friday till the 1950’s. The film also looks at his philanthropy and as a leader of the Cypriot community, particularly towards the men who made his restaurant their first port of call. My father has been written about in three books
‘The Seacoast of Bohemia’ written by Peter Kirkpatrick, The Queen of Bohemia’ Dulcie Deaner and ‘The Children of Aphrodite Cypriots in Australia’ Professor Anastasios Tamis. His restaurant was also described in an article published this year in the Hellenic Herald ‘The lasting legacy of Andrew Arestides Continental Cafe’ also written by Peter Kirkpatrick. Since the article was published several men in there 90’s have come forward with their reminiscences of my father and his restaurant which have now been filmed.
I’m in the early stages of my production and am looking for funds to move forward to the next stage of production. My partners are Aviva Zeigler Producer, Mark Gould co - director, Hellen Arestides, Dorothy Costa and David Bradbury.
Any donations are 100% tax deductible.
All the best
