After an extraordinary 26 years of leadership, dedication and an unwavering commitment to Cafe Sydney, our CEO Jan McKenzie has announced that she will step away from the restaurant at the end of this year.

Since joining us in 2000, Jan has shaped Cafe Sydney into the restaurant it is today, guided by a belief in consistency, genuine hospitality and, above all, relationships. With our guests, our team and the city we are so proud to call home.

As Jan prepares to hand over the reins, we are delighted to welcome Jeremy Courmadias as Cafe Sydney’s incoming CEO. Jeremy joins us following an impressive career at the helm of some of Sydney’s most celebrated restaurants and will work closely alongside Jan over the coming months.

Thank you to Scott Bolles and Good Food The Sydney Morning Herald for sharing today’s news and so beautifully capturing Jan’s remarkable 26-year contribution to Cafe Sydney.

There will be plenty of time to celebrate Jan properly before the year is out. For today, we simply want to say thank you, Jan, for 26 extraordinary years, and welcome Jeremy to Cafe Sydney. 🥂

The 2024 Bubb + Pooley Chardonnay - a beautiful expression of the Coal River Valley.

Expect bright, refined fruit with lovely texture, subtle oak and a lingering finish.

A wine that speaks beautifully of its cool-climate origins - perfect for a warm winter afternoon.

THE SEASON OF THE TRUFFLE

There are few ingredients that signal winter quite like the arrival of Australian black truffle.

From the rich soils of Manjimup, Western Australia, Gavin and Mel Booth of Australian Truffle Traders produce some of the Southern Hemisphere’s most highly regarded black truffles. Prized by chefs around the world for their distinctive aroma, depth of flavour and exceptional quality, their truffles are a true celebration of the Australian winter.

This season, we’re showcasing this extraordinary ingredient with a dish that lets the truffle take centre stage: House made casarecce, mushrooms, cavolo nero, lemon butter sauce, shaved Manjimup black truffle - Aromatic, deeply savoury and unmistakably indulgent.

Chef Sarahjane believes the greatest joy in food comes from sharing, so she’s sharing her truffle pasta recipe - inviting you to recreate this beautiful dish at home.

Visit the Cafe Sydney Journal on our website for the recipe - link in bio.

Bread and butter pudding, crème anglaise, vanilla icecream

Our decadent take on bread and butter pudding begins with a house-baked croissant, soaked in a luscious orange and vanilla custard, then enriched with golden raisins and sultanas gently steeped in the Cafe Sydney Amaro and apple schnapps.

Warm, buttery, fragrant and deeply indulgent, it’s served with our house-made vanilla ice cream and a silky vanilla crème anglaise - the perfect balance of richness, warmth and cool, creamy sweetness.

Few buildings have witnessed Sydney’s evolution quite like Customs House.

Built in 1845, the historic landmark has stood proudly on the edge of Sydney Harbour for almost two centuries.

For the past 27 years, Cafe Sydney has called its rooftop home - a brief chapter in the building’s remarkable history, yet one woven into the story of the harbour itself.

In tribute to the vision of Colonial Architect Mortimer Lewis, whose timeless design continues to define Customs House, we created the Mortimer Martini.

A refined union of Australian and British spirits and botanicals, the cocktail honours the heritage of the building while celebrating the contemporary spirit of Cafe Sydney.

Elegant, balanced and enduring, the Mortimer Martini has become a signature favourite on our cocktail list - a toast to the past, enjoyed in the present.
