Getting chilly now, especially those early mornings here in Cherrybrook. The bees are still out and about foraging when the weather is dry and warm enough, but they essentially only get enough to keep them going over the colder months. We did our regular Varroa mite check recently, and thankfully so far we are mite-free. However, they are nearby and have spread rapidly, and far more widely than would be expected by natural movement since the eradication program shifted to a management focus. Still too many “beekeepers” that are really doing everyone including themselves a serious disservice 😡. So, we remain vigilant, and have researched and resourced the optimum strategies for managing our hives when they get here. In the meantime, we did manage to harvest from a few frames when we removed the honey supers for the winter, so the veranda stall has been re-stocked with 375g bottles. We are sold out of 1kg pails, and there is no more honey to pack, so there won’t be more in this size until the spring. We will almost certainly sell out of honey before then, so if you want some of the “best honey I’ve ever eaten” , do come by soon!
