Got plans this weekend?

If not, here’s an idea: come to the market and grab a few treats!

I’ll be at Maroubra Beach Markets this Saturday, from 8am to 2pm, with all your gluten-free favorites: fluffy cinnamon rolls, cookies, soft lamingtons, and creamy raspberry cheesecake.

Come say hi and treat yourself to something delicious!

Will I see you this Saturday?

Somehow we've made it to June, which means a new month of gluten-free treats is on the way.

Here’s everything happening at Quokka Pastry this month:

🧺 I'm back at the markets and you'll find me:

At the Maroubra Beach Markets this Saturday June 6th, from 8am to 2pm

At the Heffron Park Markets on Sunday June 21st from 8am to 2pm.

❄️ The Winter menu is currently being brainstormed over far too many coffees (if that’s even possible!) and is set to drop on June 15th.

Expect warm spices, rich flavors, and all the cosy things you want in winter treats.

Local pickup will be available every week on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

And some of the treats ship Australia-wide every Tuesday!

🥨 I’m also fine-tuning the logistics for the breads and they will be available very soon, I promise. I haven’t locked in a date just yet but it’s coming.

🍪 And your favorite cookies? Always available on the website, ready for shipping Australia-wide or local pickup!

Facebook reminded me that, ten years ago, I graduated from law school in San Francisco with an LL.M.

My life looks nothing like I thought it would, and it feels like a completely different version of me.

It made me think about how much has changed since then, and why I actually love being a pastry chef after ditching my career as a lawyer.

I get to be creative. Because let’s be honest, there’s only so much creative freedom when you work around regulations, rulings, and the law.

Every day I take simple ingredients and turn them into something you can actually eat, share, and get excited about.

I get to fix your sweet cravings, instead of legal problems. And I’ll take that swap any day. Seeing someone light up over a cookie or a tart is a lot more fun and rewarding, than getting the best divorce settlement you can possibly dream of.

You come to me for joy, happiness, little moments, comfort food, or just because you felt like it. Not because something went terribly wrong with your employer or your landlord.

And then there’s probably the biggest shift: I just get to be my (slightly) weird self.

No need to hide my tattoos, no need to always look polished, no need to fit into a professional mould that never felt right.

Although I will admit: I do miss the cute outfits and high heels sometimes. Not exactly kitchen-friendly, unfortunately 😉

The question I still get now and then: would I ever go back? Do I miss it?

No. Not one bit.

I had never heard of Robby Hoffman, Alex Cooper, or the podcast Call Her Daddy. Maybe I was living under a rock. And they’ll probably never see this either.

But what I saw and heard really bothered me, and I can’t just stay quiet about it. So bear with me for a second.

There is nothing “cool” or “trendy” about being coeliac or having to eat gluten-free for health reasons.

Just because I won’t look like Will Smith in Hitch if I eat gluten doesn’t mean the damage isn’t real. Not every disease comes with obvious visible and dramatic symptoms, and dismissing it because you can’t physically see it is so f*d up.

And no, it’s not a preference either.

Do you think we enjoy being the “difficult one” at restaurants, asking all the questions just to make sure something is safe? Do you think we enjoy planning everything around food, checking menus before we even go out? Paying more for basic food? Reading ingredient labels like legal documents?

We don’t. Most of us would happily skip all of that if we could.

Coeliac disease is real, and I do think people with massive platforms should take the time to educate themselves before speaking on things like this.

But you know what is amazing? The gluten-free community.

People looking out for one another. Sharing safe restaurants, products, recipes, tips, and support. Helping complete strangers feel less alone navigating something that can be exhausting and isolating.

And that’s probably the only "cool" thing about this disease: the community that comes with it 💜

It’s already time for one final spotlight on the Quokka-fied biscuits.

Over the last three months, these biscuits have slowly become some of my favorite treats I’ve ever created.

From making endless batches of marshmallows, to perfecting every layer, it’s been such a fun menu to bring to life. And hearing how much you’ve all loved them has made it even more special.

I’m definitely a little sad to say goodbye to this Fall menu, but I’m also very excited to start creating new treats for Winter… although I’m not quite ready for the cold weather yet 😅

So if you’ve been eyeing any of these biscuits, this is officially your LAST chance to get your hands on them before they disappear for the season.

Available through the link in bio.
