For KoKo Coffee Roasters, origin trips are part of the roasting process.

Alex gets out from behind the roaster and into the places where the coffee actually begins, tasting coffees, talking shop with producers and learning what makes each region and harvest tick.

Then he brings all of that back to Mermaid Beach.

Because when it’s time to roast, he’s not working from a spreadsheet of numbers. He’s got a much better starting point, he’s tasted the coffee, seen where it comes from and knows what he wants to find in the cup.

That’s a pretty good way to start a roast. ☕️

And just like that, August is done. ☕️

A massive thank you to Social Espresso for being our Roaster of the Month and filling the month with some seriously good coffee.

From the Sweet Bambino and its stone fruit and dried berry sweetness, to the chocolatey, caramel comfort of El Cucho, and the wonderfully wild Nicaragua Parainema CM Natural—there’s been plenty to keep our grinders busy.

We’ve loved getting to share Mitch’s story, Social’s approach to sourcing and roasting, and the coffees that make them who they are.

Thanks for letting us bring a little more Social Espresso to homes across Australia. Keep roasting good stuff! 🤎

We’ve got one for the filter lovers🙌

Social Espresso’s Nicaragua Parainema CM Natural is doing things a little differently.

The ripe cherries are sealed in a stainless-steel bioreactor for three days, with temperature, pH and Brix carefully monitored throughout. The result is a controlled fermentation designed to build serious sweetness and complexity.

In the cup: dark chocolate, rum-soaked raisin, warm spice and orange peel.

Roasted specifically for filter, it’s one to slow down for.
