Antonio and Julia are the husband and wife team behind La Pizzeria Italiana.
Antonio is from Sardinia, Italy. Julia is Australian-born with Calabrese parents, which basically means neither of them can have a quiet opinion about food.
Before opening the restaurant, Antonio brought his culinary talents around the world — London, Porto Cervo, Melbourne — basically collecting life experience (and sleep deprivation).
Julia also managed to travel from LA to Italy working in film, TV and theatre… which turns out is perfect training for hospitality, because both involve chaos, drama, and pretending everything is under control.
They met in Melbourne in 2016… at a pizzeria. Of all places. Very original for two Italians, we know.
Julia was visiting family. Antonio was making pizzas. One thing led to another… and now here they are:
married, sleep deprived, covered in flour, and running a restaurant together.
Some of you might remember us from our cosy little Italian bar on Toorak Road in South Yarra, where we spent five years surviving on espresso, spritzes, panini, cannoli… and optimism.
Fast forward to now and we somehow have a pizzeria in Beaumaris, plus a tiny boss named Piero running the place like he’s on payroll.
These days life mostly revolves around dough, wine, late nights, and the most dangerous question in any marriage:
“What do you feel like eating?”
Anyway… that’s the short version.
The long version requires several bottles of wine and Antonio explaining things with his hands for 45 minutes. 🤌🏼🍷🍕🇮🇹❤️
