Quick update: We had to admit temporary defeat with our online ordering project and put it back in the oven for a little while longer.

For now we're back on the same Bopple ordering system we've been using, so please bear with us while we keep tinkering behind the scenes.

Honestly, this whole thing started because we kept asking ourselves:

"Why isn't there just one system that works really well for small venues?"

Turns out there's probably a reason nobody has built it yet šŸ˜†

We thought we'd have a crack at making our own. Some parts worked. Some parts definitely did not. A few late nights, a few headaches and several hundred emails later, we've decided to regroup and keep cooking.

We'll get there.

In the meantime, the burgers still work, the fryers still work, and we're pretty sure the staff still work too.

Ever start a project and think you'll bang it out in a weekend?

Then a few weeks later you're still working on it and wondering where your confidence came from in the first place.

It's a bit like that project Dad quietly moved into the shed. The one he was really excited about at the start, but now gets strangely quiet whenever Mum asks how it's going.

That was supposed to be us updating the Winter menu.

Then somewhere along the way we decided it would also be a great time to rebuild our online ordering system.

Then customers start asking about it every second day and you smile politely while internally realising you've bitten off slightly more than you can chew.

So anyway, the new Winter menu finally arrives tomorrow.

We've leaned pretty heavily into smash burgers and fried chicken and, if I'm being honest, I've eaten so much of both during testing that I'm starting to have some concerns. But that's usually a good sign.

Adelaide winters have always felt like a mix of hibernation, comfort food and accidentally gaining a few kilos, so we figured we'd lean into it.

Tomorrow also sees the launch of our new online ordering system.

Now before anyone gets carried away, we're not tech bros. We're burger people who somehow found ourselves building software. But we've worked hard on it, we're proud of it and we think it's going to make ordering a whole lot easier.

If you've got loyalty points, don't stress. They should have all migrated across safely.

*Should.*

Nah, we're pretty sure they did.

Assuming everything works.

Which we're reasonably confident it... probably will.

The other thing we're excited about is the specials.

Throughout Winter we'll be running a bunch of deals to make the cold weather suck a little less.

We'll share more about those as we kick things off, but keep an eye on our socials and the new menu because we've got some pretty cool stuff lined up.

When you do something for so long, sometimes you forget why you loved it in the first place.

Or you realise you’ve been doing certain things a certain way simply because… that’s how they’ve always been done.

So that’s kinda the direction we’re taking things at the moment.

Over the last few months we’ve been stepping back, reworking recipes, refining systems, simplifying some things and putting more focus back into what made Barry’s feel like Barry’s to begin with.

There’s some new burgers, sides, weeknight specials and a new online ordering system coming soon. Some things will change, most favourites will stay, but the main goal is simple:

Make the experience better.
Make the food better.
Make it fun again.

We’re aiming to launch everything in the first week of June heading into Winter and honestly we’re pretty excited for you guys to see what we’ve been building behind the scenes.

Also yes… AI may or may not have been used in this photo. Mainly to give us unreal fades because apparently that technology exists now šŸ˜‚

UPDATES šŸ”

So it kinda feels like half the people I know over 30 are financially hanging on by a thread at the moment, so we figured…

Let’s mix up the menu and streamline things over Winter because honestly, what else do we really have to lose at this point 🤣

And maybe it’ll make life feel slightly less gloomy for a while.

Every time I see anything news related or the words ā€œRBA announcementā€ I already know the average Aussie is about to get folded again, so I just assume it’s bad news now.

Spoiler alert:
I’m usually right.

SO anyway! Against all logic, common sense and probably our accountant’s advice, we’ve actually slightly LOWERED the prices on some things on the new menu and put together some fun specials/deals heading into Winter.

In a world where literally everything keeps going up... including about 99% of what we stock... we’ve tried to work with suppliers who are still on team ā€œaverage human being with a pulse and maybe a family that loves themā€ instead of team ā€œsoulless multinational corporation using every global crisis as a beautiful new opportunity to increase profits year after year at everyone else’s expense.ā€

Rare species these days.

Don’t stress either:
we haven’t downgraded anything.

The quality is and always will be there while I’m still steering this salty ship.

We HAVE tightened the menu up a bit though.

If your favourite item disappeared, I’m sorry.

But it was probably justified…
or incredibly annoying to prep…
and/or has likely been replaced or upgraded with something even better šŸ‘€

Because honestly… 2026 has been a bit of a circus so far. Costs up, everything up, vibes questionable and we’re not even halfway through yet.

Chat to anyone in small business and you’ll get the same look. Slightly tired, slightly unhinged (maybe we always looked like this), still showing up.

EASTER HOURS UPDATE šŸ£šŸ”

Burger lovers of culture… we meet again.

This Easter weekend we’ll be open Friday to Sunday, 5pm – 9pm(ish) closing for lunch while a few of us sneak away for a well earned break.

We’re quietly hoping the Easter Bunny swaps the chocolate for a few jerry cans of diesel this year… but we’ll take what we can get.

Also yeah there’ll be a public holiday surcharge. Sucks, we know… but it’s kinda the world we live in now and it keeps the crew behind the grill happy on pay day, which matters.

Anyway.

We hope you get some family time, some proper time off… or even just that moment where you bite into a Baz Deluxe and the mouth feel temporarily makes the financial repercussions of existing in 2026 just kinda… melt away for a while.

The crazy season slows down and before you know it you’re deciding which Fringe show to see and whether getting tipsy in the Garden of Unearthly Delights on a Tuesday night was the best idea come Wednesday grill shift.

But hey… we live and we learn. Most of the time.

We’re still here doing our thing.

Just a heads up we’ll be closed for the Monday public holiday (our usual day off).
