☕️ WHY WE LOVE HIRING YOUNG JUNIORS ❤️

A lot of people think we hire juniors because they’re cheaper.

Not really. 🙂

The truth is…

We genuinely love giving young people their first opportunity. ❤️

Because a café is one of the best classrooms in the world.

Not for maths. 📚
Not for science. 🧪

But for LIFE. 🌏

At school, you learn subjects.

At work, you learn character.

☀️ You learn how to wake up early.
⏰ You learn how to be on time.
😊 You learn how to talk to strangers.
🤝 You learn how to work in a team.
😅 You learn how to handle pressure.
🙋‍♂️ You learn how to take responsibility when you make mistakes.

And most importantly…

💰 You learn that money is not easy to earn.

After standing for 8 hours…
After making hundreds of coffees…
After cleaning tables…
After serving customers all day…

Young people start to see life differently.

❤️ They appreciate their parents more.
❤️ They complain less.
❤️ They understand why Mum and Dad come home tired.
❤️ They realise every dollar has a story behind it.

Many of our juniors start their first shift nervous.

😳 Quiet.
😳 Shy.
😳 Unsure of themselves.

Then a few months later…

✨ More confident.
✨ More mature.
✨ Better communicators.
✨ Better humans.

And that’s something we are incredibly proud of.

A first job is not just about earning money.

It’s about learning life lessons.

🌱 Respect.
🌱 Discipline.
🌱 Gratitude.
🌱 Responsibility.

These lessons will stay with them long after they leave our café.

Whether they become:

👨‍⚕️ Doctors
👩‍🏫 Teachers
👷 Tradies
👩‍💼 Managers
👨‍💻 Engineers

Or even business owners…

We hope they remember where it all started.

☕️ Making coffees.
🍳 Carrying plates.
🧹 Cleaning tables.
😊 Looking after people.

Because sometimes…

A café is much more than a café.

❤️ It’s where young people learn how the real world works.

Our broth is slowly simmered for 72 hours straight… extracting every bit of flavour, warmth and soul into one deep, silky bowl 💥🌿

⚠️ Community Notice ⚠️

We have never made a post like this before.

However, after a recent incident at our Secret Harbour venue, we feel it is important to speak up.

A group of teenagers entered the café and took slushies and drinks without paying, in full view of our staff members.

When approached, their behaviour was disrespectful and intimidating.

They mocked staff, made inappropriate physical contact, and showed little regard for the impact their actions were having on those around them.

The situation escalated to the point where our team felt unsafe and locked the venue’s doors while the incident was unfolding.

Most concerning of all, this was not the first time this group has been involved in this type of behaviour.

The matter has been reported to Police, and CCTV footage has been provided. Should further incidents occur, we will continue to pursue all available legal avenues to protect our staff, customers, and business.

At Surfing Lizard, we work hard to create a welcoming and safe environment for everyone. Our team members, many of whom are young employees themselves, deserve to come to work without fear of harassment, intimidation, or abuse.

We appreciate the support of our community and ask that everyone treat hospitality workers with the respect they deserve.

❤️🥹 8YO BOY AND $5… BUT A WHOLE WEEK OF HAPPINESS ❤️☕️

Last weekend, one of our lovely customers gave Ryan a $5 tip. 💵✨

To most adults, $5 might only be enough for a small coffee ☕️

But to an 8-year-old boy, it meant the world. 🥹❤️

Ryan has been talking about it all week.

He carefully put the note into his wallet 👛 and proudly showed it to everyone at home.

What surprised us most wasn’t the money itself.

It was what came after.

For the entire week, Ryan kept asking:

💬 “Is it the weekend yet, Dad?”

💬 “Can I come help at the café?”

💬 “I want to help serve customers.”

🥲❤️

Sometimes we don’t realise how a small act of kindness can make such a big impact on someone else.

To the wonderful customer who made Ryan’s day…

Thank you. 🙏❤️

It wasn’t really about the $5.

It was about making a young boy feel valued, encouraged, and excited to come and help Mum and Dad at the café. ☕️✨

You’ve given him something much more meaningful than money.

❤️ Confidence.

❤️ Motivation.

❤️ A sense of pride.

And most importantly…

❤️ A memory he’ll probably remember for a very long time.

The smile on his face lasted much longer than the $5 ever could. 🥹❤️
