Yesterday I met the most remarkable couple; Annie and Albrecht from Salisbury East, who have just celebrated 70 years of marriage.
Annie and Albrecht moved to South Australia from Germany in 1969 after they lost all their savings when the bank collapsed.
By that time they already had 8 children (boy, girl, boy, girl, boy, girl, boy, girl).
They spoke no English and picked up what they could during the boat journey to Australia.
They moved into the home in Salisbury East they still live in - 3 bedrooms for a family of 10!
Albrecht worked for Bridgestone and Annie cleaned houses.
They now have 17 grand kids, 26 great grand kids (with two more on the way), and 3 great-great grand kids.
An incredible migrant story.
I was humbled to deliver some flowers yesterday and offer them my congratulations.
