💚 Join our big heart club !!! 💚

Do you want to help change lives?

Do you have a big heart and a passion for seeing others reach their full potential?

We are currently seeking male and female mentors to join our growing team.

Many people see the wonderful work our team does in the café, and we absolutely need more people there too, but there is also a big part of our organisation that isn’t often seen on our socials.

We provide 1:1 community mentoring for people living with disability, and those who are vulnerable, at risk, or experiencing homelessness. We come alongside people as someone in their corner, supporting them to grow, build confidence, and reach their full potential.

If you have experience working with people with disability or vulnerable communities and would love to be part of an incredible team, we would love to hear from you.

We also welcome people with lived experience, or those who simply have a compassionate heart and want meaningful, rewarding work that gives back to the community.

Shifts are predominantly weekdays, and we are open to hiring people who may only have 1–2 days available, as well as those wanting to build up to full-time hours.

If this sounds like you, please get in touch.

📚✨ A story about friendship, imagination and connection.

The Adventurous Tales of Isaac and Kingsley is inspired by the beautiful friendship between two very special people in my life.

Isaac is a wonderful young man in his 20s who has Down syndrome, and Kingsley is a toddler with a speech delay. Despite the difference in their ages and abilities, the connection between these two boys is something truly special.

Through play, laughter and imagination they create their own adventures together. Watching their joy, curiosity and connection inspired this story — a story that celebrates friendship, imagination and the magic that can happen.

But this book is also part of a much bigger purpose.✨

Many of you know that when I started Local Heart Community, my goal was to create meaningful opportunities for people living with disability and those who may otherwise be overlooked — creating pathways into employment, training and connection.

In the early days I even sold my car to help cover the costs of getting things started because I believed so strongly in the vision.

Since then we’ve seen how important these opportunities are. We’re also seeing a growing need — not just for people supported by the NDIS, but for individuals in our community who are struggling and need connection, purpose and opportunity.

The unfortunate reality is that as a smaller organisation we’ve often been overlooked for grants and government funding.

But what we do have is something incredibly powerful — the support of our community.

Our goal is to sell 10,000 books to help kick-start our next community initiative, creating more opportunities, employment pathways and community projects that make a meaningful difference in people’s lives.

If you would like to support the project you can: 📚 Purchase a copy for yourself or a loved one

🏫 Schools and childcare centres – we would love to connect with you about purchasing copies for your classrooms

🤝 Share the story with your community

Books are available online via Amazon link in the bio or search the title.

And if you are a local business who would like to get involved with sponsoring our next project we would love to hear from you!

Happy Birthday 🎂 Harry!

We are so proud of you and everything you’re doing. Our OG — the very first person to complete our training program, the first to move into paid employment, and an absolute all-round legend.

Harry, your quick wit and sharp sense of humour keep us all on our toes, but we also see the kind, big-hearted person underneath it all. You always make the team laugh, and we’re lucky to have you as part of this journey.

Here’s to celebrating you today! 🎉

P.s thank you for still working even on your birthday - hope the quick cake break made it memorable and now.... Get back to work hahahah

There’s something really special about seeing our space filled with connection. 🧶☕

We love having our local knitting club join us at the cafe — such a beautiful group of women coming together each week to chat, create, and support what we’re building for the community.

Moments like these are exactly why we opened our doors.

If you have a group that likes to meet — book clubs, craft circles, knitting groups, study groups or just friends catching up — you’re always welcome to use our space.

Good coffee, good company, and a place where everyone belongs. 💚

This is what locals supporting locals is all about! 💚

And I’ll say it — north side does this properly.

Thursday night at Fringe we met the legend himself, Marc Ryan . Naturally, we had a chat… because let’s be honest, Fern doesn’t exactly do “quick hello” conversations.

Turns out he’s not just a brilliant entertainer — he’s genuinely a top bloke.

He assured us that he would come and check out our cafe.

Now… people say that kind of thing all the time.
But he actually did despite it being his busiest time, the middle of Fringe chaos — shows, crowds, running around Adelaide !

Came in, said g’day, grabbed a coffee, and somehow has already secured “new regular” status.

We’re fairly certain we heard him say it’s the best coffee in Adelaide.
There are no official transcripts and don't ask him to confirm.
But we stand by it. 😉

If you’re heading to Fringe, go see his show and tell him we sent you !

And if you’re one of our local northern legends — get out there and support one of our own. That’s how we do it up here. 💚

we’ll be closing at 12:30pm today.
If you’re nearby, come say hi and grab something refreshing 😎
iced latte, milkshake or a cheeky ice cream 🍦

Would you be keen to join our Saturday morning Run Club? 🏃‍♀️☕

Starting February, we’re kicking off a weekly community run — meeting up with locals, heading out for a relaxed run, connecting with new faces, then coming back for a coffee, smoothie… or even staying on for brekkie.

It’s a simple way to move your body, look after your health and wellbeing, and start your weekend feeling fresh — with your exercise already ticked off ✔️

✨ All paces and abilities welcome
✨ Come for the run, stay for the community

See you Saturday mornings 💚

Thank you for all the support you show for what we’re building 💚
If you’re needing a coffee fix or something to eat and you’re in the area, turn down the side street and come see us — every brew helps support our mission and we truly love seeing you.
And if your business or workplace could welcome one of our mentees for a few hours a week — whether that’s hospitality, admin, customer service, cleaning or something else — we’d absolutely love to connect. Our mission is simply to see more people with a disability employed.
Support your locals 🤍☕

✨ A little change for 2026, with a lot of heart ✨

We’ve made the decision to close the café on Sundays in 2026 — and it’s for all the good reasons.

Sundays will now be our day to head out to local farmers markets, wander around Adelaide, source fresh produce, meet more locals, and build deeper connections with the people behind the food we love serving. 🥕🍊

It also gives us dedicated time to clean and prep the café (and hopefully reduce Fern’s very late nights 😅), plan our mentee activities and programs, and get everything just right for the week ahead — so when you visit, the space feels welcoming, thoughtful, and full of care.

This was our first Sunday market shop, and wow… the smells of fresh fruit, vegetables, and spices, the joyful chaos, stallholders calling out “cheap cheap!”, and fruit being popped straight into our hands to taste — what an experience! We laughed, explored, and soaked up the full market culture.
Such a fun morning — and we already can’t wait for next week. 💚

Thank you for supporting local, community-led businesses and growing with us.
