Dear Woolworths,

We’d just like to say a very sincere thank you.

Thank you for reminding Tasmanians that there are, in fact, farmers outside the supermarket supply chain. 😂

Because amongst all the discussion about Tassie beef disappearing from Woolies, we’ve noticed something rather lovely happening…

People are looking for their local farmers.

They’re asking where their beef comes from.
They’re asking how the cattle are raised.
They’re asking who actually produced their food.

And they’re discovering something farmers like us have known for years:

You can buy really good food directly from the people who actually raised or grew it.

And we’re certainly not the only ones.

There are small farmers all over Tasmania — and right across Australia — who have spent years working incredibly hard to build direct relationships with the public.

They’re selling beef, pork, lamb, eggs, vegetables, fruit, dairy and all sorts of beautiful local produce.

They’re getting up before dawn, working weekends, dealing with droughts, floods, rising costs and everything else farming throws at them…

…and then doing the marketing, packing, deliveries and customer service themselves. 😂

So, on behalf of small farmers everywhere:

Thank you, Woolies. ❤️

We genuinely mean it.

Because every time someone decides to skip the supermarket and buy directly from a local farmer, it makes a difference.

And this is where we’d love your help.

Tag a farmer in the comments who sells directly to the public.

They can be in Tasmania, anywhere else in Australia, or even further afield.

If you know a farmer who is working hard to keep food local, build a direct relationship with customers and put genuinely good food on people’s tables — give them a shout-out.

Let’s use all this conversation to introduce people to the farmers who are already doing it.

Because perhaps the best thing to come out of this whole kerfuffle is that more people are asking:

“Who grows my food?”

And perhaps the answer should be:

“I know. I buy it from them.”

Buy local.
Know your farmer.
Support the people who feed you.

And, of course…

Eat ridiculously good beef. 😉
