Every year we post an end of year Thankyou to our wonderful staff and loyal customer community. This year, it feels appropriate to say a little more….. Our little business has been trading for 20 years this year, no mean feat in the cut throat world of hospitality. In those 20 years we’ve seen a lot, shared alot… fires, floods, 2 years of Covid lockdowns! It’s been a ride, and the one thing that remained constant was the support from our Communities. But the last 2 years have hit differently for us as a family run Jewish business. We’ve never promoted the fact that we were Jewish, we believed our personal lives were not interwoven with our business life, but it is. In January this year, amongst the rise in Antisemitism, our Bellevue Hill store was grafitti’d. Not a large emblazoned message, just one word. N**i. With a sw****ka above it. We weren’t sure whether to call it out, purely out of fear, but we did. We knew antisemitism was all around us, but when it’s directed at you… it hits differently. The support we receive from the Jewish and wider community was overwhelming. Fast forward to Sunday nights attack on our community, where it was no longer threats and slurs, but guns and death, it cuts differently. It’s our worst fears realized. No one in our community is surprised by this pure act of hate, it wasn’t a question of if it would happen, only when and where? Again, the outpouring of love this week, has been overwhelming and we are so grateful. We got to this point in Australia though, through silence, so please be vocal. It’s the only way we can move forward in peace. Big love and a peaceful year to everyone. ❤️
