Here are the top benefits:

Reduce Mites and Lice
By vigorously kicking fine dust into their feathers, chickens create a dry environment that suffocates and dislodges external parasites like mites and lice. It’s their first line of defence against the creepy-crawlies that want to hitch a ride.

Helps to Clean Feathers
It sounds counterintuitive to get dirty to get clean, but the dust actually absorbs excess oils and stale secretions from the preen gland. Once they shake it all off, those feathers are left light, fluffy, and perfectly primed for insulation and flight.

Keeps Skin Healthy
The abrasive nature of the soil acts as a gentle exfoliant. It helps slough off dead skin cells (which some mites and lice love) and prevents the build up of moisture against the skin, which can lead to fungal issues.
