Mayfair Bakery and Patisserie

Mayfair Bakery and Patisserie Mayfair Bakery and Patisserie is a family business synonymous with Port Adelaide. Established in 1870.

Proudly supplying South Australians with baked local produced for 150 years. Mayfair Bakery and Patisserie is synonymous with Port Adelaide. Mayfair’s origins date back to 1870, when soon to be elected Mayor of Port Adelaide David Bower (1812-1898), commissioned and built what is now known as the Bower Buildings. In this group of heritage shop fronts, Mayfair Bakery and Patisserie was founded and continues to operate as a bakery after 150 years of trading. Mayfair Bakery and Patisserie is presently and has always been, a proudly South Australian family owned and operated business. In 150 years, Mayfair has seen an ever-changing landscape, from the use of the ports, Australian outlaws, 2 world wars, the Great depression, the GFC, Spanish Flu and most recently the coronavirus pandemic. In a forever changing world, Mayfair has remained a favourite at home in Port Adelaide. Mayfair’s tradition started by feeding the sailors, sea captains and warfies, as tall ships sailed through what is now the Port Canal. Continuing to operate as one of Australia’s oldest and most loved bakeries, it’s clear that Mayfair’s recipes and traditional baking secrets have kept customers coming back to the Port. Like many changing times in Port Adelaide, from the last tall ship, to containerisation, one place has remained true to their roots and a lighthouse for all hungry travellers, Mayfair. Mayfair Bakery and Patisserie proudly calls Port Adelaide and South Australia home after 150 years. We acknowledge Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islander people as the traditional custodians of the land upon which we bake.

•THANK YOU•
Tomorrow is our last day as the owner's here at Mayfair. Kris and her family will be taking the keys as of the 1st of October.

On behalf of the Donnelly's thank you!
Thank you to our team, our customers, our wholesale customers, our suppliers, our community, friends, family and friends that have become family.

You all had confidence in us and that confidence has been what's enabled us to achieve what we have and helped us leave our mark on Mayfair's history.

I feel incredibly humbled by the support and the sense of community and togetherness that have made my ( all of a sudden very fast) 13 years as amazing as they have.

There's a special something about being a Port Adelaidian that only those in the Port truly know and it's something special I look forward to being able to continue as a part of the Port community!

Thank you all again for believing in us and trusting us to continue to bring Mayfair not only to SA but now Australia.

I know you will all embrace Mayfair's new custodian and welcome them the same way you welcomed a young 21 year old Phil.

Thank you again
Phil and the Donnelly Family

•ANNOUNCEMENT•
I have some very big news, and my heart is very full!
With nothing but excitement, I can announce that as of October 1st, Mayfair Bakery & Patisserie will be under new ownership.

Firstly thank you!

To my customers, and to my community. You have carried this bakery as much as I have.

I took over the reins at Mayfair at 21 (now a very wise 35). It was no easy feat I was a lot younger and not quite as grey! It became clear to me that I've been a custodian of Mayfair, and now it's my turn to pass the baton.

For those who don't always see what happens behind the scenes my Mum, Suzanne, and my Dad, Peter, are just as much a part of Mayfair as I am. The countless hours they've put in behind the scenes built what we have today.

From a young man with ideas and so much passion, here's what I'm proudest of:
Saving a historic brand and setting it up to see another 150 years. Blood, sweat and tears (and then some).
Growing a loved local icon from the Port into one of SA's leading bakery brands.
Multiple awards.
110+ students through our doors, apprenticeships completed start to finish, and a seat on the TAFE SA bakery advisory board.
Going from SA's top venues to supermarket shelves nationally we're now doing over 4 tonnes of cream cheese a month!
Building our gluten-free production kitchen from the ground up.
Our partnership with Beerenberg over 343+ years of combined SA history.
Curating Yitpi Yartapuultiku cafe, kitchen, menu and opening, and creating menus for The Ghan and the Art Gallery of SA.
Standing behind the clubs, charities and community that made Port Adelaide feel like home.
It's been my privilege to showcase Port Adelaide to the country, and stand behind a community that has always stood behind me.
I'll let the new owner introduce themselves when the time is right. What I can promise:
Mayfair stays in Port Adelaide hands, family owned, with a very big future ahead!

I'll continue as an ambassador for SA food manufacturing and championing Port Adelaide. Looking forward to some well earned family time, and enjoying my community as a resident, a local and of course a customer of Mayfair!

Thank you to everyone.
