One thing I think we get backwards in health is trying to fix secondary issues before creating a healthy environment for the body to function in.

When someone is living with chronic weight issues, the body is under constant pressure.

Fat cells aren’t just storage containers. They are active tissue that produce hormones and inflammatory chemicals that can influence hunger, insulin sensitivity, energy regulation and fat storage.

The more excess fat tissue we carry, the more stress is placed on these systems. This can contribute to insulin resistance, which can make it even easier to store fat and harder to access it for energy.

That’s why I believe the first step is creating a healthier internal environment.

🥩 Better nutrition
🥦 More whole foods
💧 Adequate hydration
🚶‍♀️ Regular movement
😴 Better sleep
🧠 Reduced stress

Then we can look at the secondary issues.

Supplements, herbal medicine and other therapies absolutely have a place, but they work best when they are supporting a body that is moving towards health rather than trying to compensate for an environment that is keeping the body under pressure.

Create the environment first.

The body often responds better than we expect.

Seeking Collaborative Health Professionals

As Optibods for Women grows into a women’s wellness hub, I am looking to build a trusted referral network of health professionals who can provide support in areas beyond my scope of practice.

My role is nutrition coaching, behaviour change, habit formation and personal training. While I work closely with clients on improving their health, some require additional support from specialised practitioners to achieve the best possible outcomes.

Psychologist

I am seeking a Medicare-registered psychologist with experience in:

• Complex trauma and CPTSD
• Inner child work
• Emotional eating and food addiction
• Body image and self-esteem
• Obesity and chronic weight management
• Behaviour change and emotional regulation

Many of my clients have spent years focusing on diets while the underlying emotional drivers remain unaddressed. I am looking for someone who understands the connection between trauma, coping behaviours and long-term weight struggles.

Accredited Practising Dietitian

I provide personalised nutrition coaching and meal planning. I am seeking a dietitian to support clients who require:

• Medical nutrition therapy
• Complex health conditions
• Gastrointestinal disorders
• Bariatric surgery support
• Specialist dietary interventions outside my scope of practice

This role would complement the practical nutrition coaching already provided through Optibods.

Accredited Exercise Physiologist

I work with a wide range of injuries, chronic conditions and mobility limitations within my personal training programs. However, some clients require a greater level of clinical exercise support than I can provide within a coaching environment.

I am seeking an Exercise Physiologist to support clients who may benefit from:

• Injury rehabilitation
• Chronic pain management
• Mobility limitations
• Disability support
• Osteoporosis and other complex conditions
• Medicare or care-plan supported exercise services
• Individualised clinical exercise programming

The ideal practitioner understands the value of collaboration and is happy to work alongside an existing coach to ensure clients receive the best possible care.

If you are passionate about helping women improve their health through a collaborative, client-centred approach, I would love to hear from you.

Please send me a private message outlining your qualifications, experience and areas of interest.

Body On™️ has a simple way of explaining how different foods behave.

Coloured vegetables and whole grains flow through the doorway in single file and the body is able to use them all.

Potato, rice, pasta, fruits, sugar and flour crowd the doorway and those that don’t fit through are stored as fat.

This is why we stop eating certain foods when trying to maintain or lose weight.

Every time you crowd the doorway you store fat.

“What can I take for this?”

Maybe the better question is…

“What’s causing it?”

Because sometimes the answer isn’t another supplement, tea, powder, or pill. Sometimes it’s poor sleep, stress, alcohol, nutrient deficiencies, lack of movement, too much processed food, dehydration, or simply running ourselves into the ground.

The hard truth? Taking out the things contributing to the problem often works better than adding more things in.

But I get it… making changes takes effort.

It’s much easier to ask:

“What can I take for it?” 🤷🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️

Sometimes the magic isn’t in what you add. It’s in what you’re willing to change.

GLP-1 medications and weight loss surgery are tools, not cures.

They can quieten some of the biological drivers behind eating by reducing hunger, cravings and food noise. But they don’t heal stress, loneliness, trauma, boredom or the emotions that often sit underneath our eating habits.

What they do offer is an opportunity.

An opportunity to learn.
An opportunity to understand your drivers.
An opportunity to build new habits and healthier coping strategies.
An opportunity to create a better relationship with food.

Because long-term change doesn’t come from the tool itself. It comes from what you learn while using it. 💜

I wrote nutrition plans for a few ladies last week and I’ve just had 2 of them check in this morning to tell me that 1 has lost a whopping 2.9kgs and the other 1.3kgs!

My plans are programmed to lose approximately .75kg of body fat per week.

Usually when larger amount gets lost to start off, it can be excess fluid that your body was holding on to trying to cool and calm whatever crappy food was bothering you.

They are both finding the plan very easy and are enjoying their food and feeling great.

I love hearing these good stories and can’t wait for the next check in 💝

Well done ladies, you know who you are xx

Inflammatory foods.

The internet would have you believe they’re hiding in every cupboard waiting to ruin your life.

Here’s the truth.

Most foods aren’t inflammatory on their own.

The problem is often the amount, the frequency, and whether your body can actually handle them.

For one person it’s gluten.
For another it’s dairy.
For someone else it’s alcohol, sugar, processed foods, or simply eating way more than their body needs.

I’ve seen women blame tomatoes, potatoes and fruit while washing down a bottle of wine every night and sleeping 5 hours.

Food matters.

But so does stress.
So does sleep.
So does gut health.
So does excess body fat.
So does moving your body.

If you’re bloated, sore, tired, foggy headed or struggling with weight loss, don’t go removing 47 foods from your diet because TikTok told you they’re inflammatory.

If you’re not sure which foods affect you, keep a simple food journal.

Write down what you eat, how you feel, your energy levels, bloating, pain, headaches, skin flare-ups and digestion.

Patterns usually start to appear pretty quickly.

Your body is usually giving you clues if you’re willing to listen.

Not every food is the enemy.
