It is with great sadness that I announce the upcoming sale of Poppy Cafe.
For the past eight years, it has been such an important part of who I am. Through COVID, family illness, and the ever-rising cost of living, I still loved coming in to work each day and seeing you all. You brought light, warmth, and calm to what was often a hectic and complicated life. I have loved hearing your stories, watching your families grow, and seeing you move through life with grace and determination. I feel truly privileged that you have shared pieces of your beautiful lives with me, and I am a richer and better person for knowing each of you.
I have also had the honour of working alongside some of the most beautiful souls. I have watched many of you grow from teenagers into adults, celebrated your greatest wins, and felt privileged to support you through some of your toughest times. Please know that, without even realising it, you have also helped me through some of my own hardest and darkest moments.
When I call you (staff and customers) my Poppy family, it is not a throwaway term. You became my family by happenstance because you walked through the door that first time and chose to return, day after day. You became my chosen family because you were all so easy to love, day after day, unconditionally and with so much joy and gratitude for having known you.
This is not quite goodbye yet, because I cannot imagine closing this chapter without one more chance to celebrate what Poppy has meant to me. I will share details soon for a little farewell get-together, and I would love to see you there so we can raise a cup, share a laugh, and say goodbye properly.
For now, the doors are closed until further notice. Keep an eye out here for more news in the coming days.
All my love to you all. Ness.
