Thirteen years ago, we opened the doors to Driftwood Café for the first time. Our dream was to build a café that felt like home. One where people would come to celebrate birthdays, catch up with friends and even enjoy a quiet moment alone.
As a business, we have ridden the ups and downs of hospitality. Pivoting through lockdowns, reduced capacities, dining restrictions and so on. No matter what was thrown at us, we made it work, keeping true to the Driftwood way and focusing on producing delicious food from local, free-range and sustainable products. The past couple of years have been particularly challenging though. We, like all small businesses have felt the pressure of a slowing economy, increased costs across the board and a customer base that is being very careful with their spending. We know we are not alone.
Which is why we share, with mixed emotions, that we are closing the doors of Driftwood on Thursday August 13th for the last time. Of course, we are sad that this chapter is coming to an end, but we can’t help but feel proud of everything we accomplished as well.
A big thank you to all of our customers over the years. We loved hosting you. To all of the amazing staff who have worked with us, thank you for your contributions and for helping make Driftwood a wonderful place to work. And of course, to our Ocean Grove community, we will miss seeing you every day. We absolutely love where we live.
Now it’s not all sad; we are excited to share that we will be continuing the catering portion of the business, Ironbark Catering, so you will still be able to get your Driftwood fix. Stay tuned for more updates!
